Default The 80–20 rule - Do 80% of your replays come from 20% of your collection?

Quote:
The Pareto principle (also known as the 80–20 rule, the law of the vital few, and the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.
I have a thousand albums and I keep revisiting the same 50 or so. I have closet full of clothes, but I prefer to wear the same comfortable worn-out sweatshirt and jeans whenever I can. Does this principle also apply to your BD collection?

I definitely rewatch a large core group more than others. Sci Fi films tend to wow my eyes the most on blu and is my favorite genre so those see the most mileage.

It's probably more like 90-10 for me. Some movies I can just watch over and over and others take years to see again.

I do have certain Blu-Rays that I do that with. Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Back to the Future are all films that I continually go back to. There has been plenty of times were I've chosen to rewatch one of these over a new release that I may have purchased.

Not really.

I treat 2nd viewings almost like 1st viewings. When I'm going through my blu-rays I will by far try to prioritize stuff that is still sealed (obviously). Sometimes I'll look for something I may have already watched - but it may have been a very long time so it isn't exactly fresh in my mind. Very rarely will something I've already seen very recently, or something I've seen multiple times on blu win out for my time over something I've either never watched, or just once.

I actually think 3 times is probably the most I've watched any single blu-ray title so far - and off the top of my head I can only recall a few I've done that for. Actually, the majority of blu-rays i've probably only watched once. A growing number are getting a 2nd spin, but it's still the minority for me.

I don't have too many in my collection that I have viewed more than once. But right now off the top of my head I can only say I've watched one of my blus more than twice since acquiring it and it's Dazed And Confused. That movie could be on repeat and it still wouldn't get old

It's probably more like 95-5 in my case.

Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, The Departed, and The Sandlot get a majority of my replays.

More like 99 - 1 for me.

I wish I didn't have so many other new films to watch (190ish). So I could re-watch some.

when ever I don't know what I feel like watching I tend to go for my core group which is mostly sc-fi/action.

This may have been true back with DVDs, but I have so many BDs I've yet to watch that I doubt I've watched a single Blu-ray more than twice.

I can probably count on my hands and feet how many movies have come out in the last 10-12 years that I've watched more than 5 or 6 times.

The movies from the 80's? The ones from my childhood? I think I've watched Rocky 4 over a thousand times, The Terminator/Total Recall/Predator about 500 times (each), and fantasy films like Neverending Story, Legend, and Flight of the Navigator about 200 times each.

Funny this thread was created today. Earlier I was thinking about how the Disney films after the "resurgence" (ie: The Little Mermaid - Hercules) simply cannot hold a candle the stuff Disney made from 1939-1977. Growing up throughout the 90's I simply did not revisit Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, or Lion King NEARLY as much as Fantasia, Sword and The Stone and The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

And that's just animation. Action films? My beloved Arnie and Sly? Meh, The Expendables franchise is nothing more than modern DTV crap that just happens to star the classic action heroes. Remove them and you'd have...mostly the same cast lol. Hopefully the third time really is a charm but I'm going in there expecting more of the same.

If I went back to DVD era (when I was in high school/college), some of those are on my "most watched" list. Well, at least Terminator 1/2, Total Recall, and Predator. I also rewatched 12 monkeys a ridiculous amount of times.

However for me, rediculous is perhaps 10 times. Maybe 15 tops. I hope you are exaggerating about 1000 LOL.

Most of the films that were my "most watched" on DVD, I've yet to really get into any repeat viewings on blu-ray. I actually held out for the most recent remasters of Terminator and Total Recall. I've watched that Terminator remaster once, and Total Recall 2x. I actually have yet to get 12 Monkeys on blu-ray at all, I'm sort of hoping for a re-issue of that one. Although I guess it's pretty unlikely.

I guess an advantage of a small collection is getting equal play out of it. I have a rotation with my movies so I don't get burned out on any of them. I shelf them for a while till I'm ready to watch again.
Sure, I have some favorites that I can watch anytime but I try to keep things fresh.

Not my favorite movie I own but I have probably watched Avatar the most on blu. It just looks so friggin good and shows off a tv so well. The last year has been just catching up on my I watched movies. So normally it is about 90 10 but lately it has been all first time viewings.
