Default Has anyone exchanged UK cases for NA cases?

I recently bought the two Naked Gun sequels along with the Hot Shots movie from Amazon.UK because they weren't available in North America. I was hoping they would come in standard North American style cases, but they came in the standard UK thicker style cases. Now my OCD is terrible, and the extra few mm the cases take up drives me insane. Has anyone performed any surgery on the artwork and made them slim enough to fit into a standard NA Viva Elite case? What sort of method did you use to cut and roughly how much did you cut off each side? I think this would work on the movies I have without sacrificing too much artwork, but I was wondering anyone else has done this and received satisfactory results.

I would never cut the cover art up, as then it would be damaged.

But I'm a little OCD myself, so what I do is: group all of my US blu-rays together, and group all the UK blu-rays together, and so forth...

I like the thicker UK cases, much sturdier. But yeah, I stack all my UK cases together - not because I'm OCD (I'm way too lazy to be OCD), but because I have some Region B 'locked' titles and others that have 50Hz content and grouping them together reminds me to play them on my region free Insignia player and through my Panasonic projector which does a great job with 50Hz.

I have a few blu-rays that I've purchased from the UK, and when they're shelved with the rest of my blu-rays, you really can't tell the difference. It's psychological. I wouldn't cut up the artwork. Just buy some replacement cases, and switch them.

I thought there would be a lot more OCD collectors on here honestly. I have over 400 movies, and they are all alphabetical. That's part of the reason I wouldn't leave it seperated. I guess I am just too obsessed.

Try the Vortex cases. I was able to get covers for some UK titles to fit without any trimming. I know that it worked for Mallrats, the Ipcress File, and the Terminator remaster, but not for the original Italian Job.

You're not the only one. I do it too. I don't like the UK's thicker cases at all. The only ones I've kept are my Arrow releases for obvious reasons. Just takes a ruler and a razor blade. Sometimes they fit with no trimming needed. Other times, you really only need a millimeter or two to trim off and they fit flawlessly. The ones that I've trimmed you can't even tell.

I live in Australia but I buy most of my movies from overseas. I get them from Amazon US and Amazon UK. Same packaging and usually the same number at a time. 5% of the items from the UK come with damaged cases but 80% of the items from the US come damaged. I have had to purchase new empty multi-disc cases from a dealer on eBay at a huge cost and then claim some of it back from Amazon US. You can imagine my feelings about the substandard crap that US distributors foist on the American public. I am severely pressed for space as well but I will take the standard Amaray cases, the UK provides, over Viva Elites and the even worse Vortex cases anyday. I won't even discuss the idea of ruining any possible resale by cutting up the artwork!!

The first few DVD's that were released back in the day, were sold in hard plastic CD cases. I have never understood why they changed away from those. Replacement CD cases are readily available everywhere and at a price point significantly below DVD and Blu-ray cases of ANY description.

I swapped out UK Doctor Zhivago into an NA case. Not due to OCD, but because the case had a big hole in the top. I didn't cut the cover at all. It fit into the NA case its just a little warped looking in the back. Absolutely not noticeable on the shelf. If you are determined to get a perfect fit I'd suggest bending/creasing instead of cutting.

Interesting. I have a few UK imports and the thicker cases don't really bother me, but with regard to the Naked Gun sequels, I simply just put all three discs in a standard sized NA case with a flipper and used the cover art for Part 1. (This would obviously drive the "each film in its own case" crowd nuts!)

I wouldn't risk cutting up the artwork though, one twitch of the hand and you end up cutting off a bit more than you want and you think your OCD is bad now?

I have quite a few UK releases and it doesn't bug me in the slightest.

I had replaced almost all my UK boxes to the slim ones. I'm using a cutting device for photos in a few interactions - cut+check while a cover will sit in new box perfectly. Artwork is not sacrificing at all.

I have several 14mm cases from the UK and Japan and it doesn't bother me at all, so I just let them be.
