Personally I never thought they'd go beyond 5.1. Soon after came 6.1 and now 7.1.
Frankly I'm voting for stereo subwoofer channels ![]() ![]() 9.2 FTW ![]() |

There are receivers out there that will do 12.2 (I think that's what I saw). The problem is that anything more than 7.1, for now, isn't discrete channels, but the result of signal processing, matrixing, etc. Until you actually start getting mixes that are 9.2, 12.2, whatever, I don't think you'll see many people with those types of systems.

no matter how many speakers, 9, 12, etc.... the (point) .1 will remain standard, because multiple subwoofers is usually not needed in home theaters..... My one sub is too much for my system.... so for someone to be unable to find one sub that is capable of handling the job is a stretch..... and I have a decent sized room (only reason I'm keeping the sub, which is a Def tech 14" ref. series, is because we got a new house, and I'll have a dedicated theater, which is pretty large) I think in the new place the sub won't be "needed" and I could get by on a much more modest one.... but I might have a little fun with it now and again.... (anyone know when Das Boot comes out on Blu Ray?
