Default Samsung 8500

Was wondering if anyone had experience with this model. Was going to get an LED because I won't lie I like the brightness of LCD LEDS.... but after reading reviews this model has me curious. I was reading it is pretty bright for a plasma. Is that true.. Like best of both worlds type of thing???.. Also a bit concerned about burn in.. Any more info would be great... Btw I can get it for a little over 1600 bucks. Pretty good deal.. It's either this or the led samsung.. thanks

I suggest the F8500 as it is very bright this year and has an excellent ambient light filter to preserve the excellent black level.

Burn-in should not be a problem if you treat the panel properly. The only threat of burn-in is if you watch the same content with static image(s) every day for a few hours or more. So as long as the content is mixed you will be okay.

Good prices on all sizes of Samsung's flagship F8500 series, but you must call your favorite authorized dealer to get the best deal. After you click on the above link just type in your zip code, our zip is 10583.

Enjoy,

For the large percentage of people who don't notice plasma flicker, a plasma is sure a better picture overall and indeed the F8500 is brighter than any current plasmas.

Only one thing that annoyed me about it in the store is it has a filter similar to Panasonics, where the vertical viewing angle is terrible. You have to be sitting with it very close to level with your eyes or the whole screen is dim. But I figure if I get it, I'll position it however, to make it not a big deal. Oh also, the input lag is really bad, as well, if that matters, but it is on the Samsung led sets as well.

Also, someone with me said the motion was real jittery, which I hadn't been looking for, but I saw one review claiming it doesn't have much judder noticeable, so I'm confused on that one.

I have about all tvs hurting my head, including leds for some reason, but I may try this one and then try the UN8000 as well and if neither works out I am stuck until I can afford OLED I guess.

LogMeIn, very good comments.

Personally, I don't think the new louver filter is an issue as you would need to be standing or laying on the floor and very close to the TV to have the louver filter distract from the image performance.

The very slight motion judder can be fixed with proper settings.

Thanks. I was wondering about that (if settings was why the judder seemed noticeable). This was at Best Buy and I noticed yesterday that they had many F8500s on display still and they all looked DIFFERENT with the same content, so who knows what in the world settings the one had which I looked at a few days ago.

And yeah good point as I probably only noticed the filter issues when I was up close to it checking it out.

I don't have an F8500 but I was strongly considering it until I bought its closest competitor this year. You are right about the "best of both worlds". take the plunge - honestly every time I see LEDs I'm glad I stayed with a plasma. You won't regret it. OLED will most likely be the future but wait until the prices come down (like 5 years). Go 64" - you will always wish you went bigger.

Email me and I'll send you some great F8500 "Movie" mode settings to put into one of their F8500s so you can see if it helps the motion judder.

Does Samsung not let authorized dealers advertise prices AT ALL lower than their $1797??? I assumed you could still lower it some, but not as much as with other brands. I don't remember an authorized one offering them lower, advertised. One offers it a couple hundred less, but not advertised and another offers a $200 gift card with it. I'm surprised more companies don't give gift cards to get prices lower.

Great... now someone has this for under $1450 shipped and I still can't decide what to do because if it hurts my head too much, their return policy is too bad to even be considered, as even selling used on ebay would get more than returning it would. I wonder if at that price I should get it and not open it until I am sure, since then at worst I could resell it on ebay as new and get all money back.
