It can be for any reason: Because it looks cool, because it is easy to navigate, because it has an awesome easter egg hidden in the animation--any reason at all.
Here's mine: ![]() This is the DVD menu to Alien. It captured the creepy dread of the film so well, that every time I booted it up in my player I got chills at the sight and sound of it. |

Agreed. That was an awesome one for sure. Predator and The Matrix were my first two DVDs and I remember just watching that menu play over and over because it was so cool.
Edit - ...aaand I just watched that YouTube video like three times. lol Oh yeah. For sure! It really gets you hyped to watch the film. The terminator "heart" track clanging in the background is deep and big. Last edited by BouCoupDinkyDau; 03-17-2014 at 04:17 AM. |

Inception - several clips of the movie with soundtrack and dialogue in the background:
[Show spoiler] Godfather Part II - very simplistic but haunting music with Michael standing at the window overlooking the lake: [Show spoiler]

For me I think Id have to go with Fight Club - which threw me completely on first watch despite knowing that something would be odd (because of the DVD which did a similar thing!) ![]() |

The original James Bond Special Edition DVD's had my favorite menus though. They were kind of revolutionary when they were released. Also, The Abyss had some really neat menus. |

I also like the Alien blu-ray menus, they kinda tell the story of each film if you let them play. I also love all 3 Game of Thrones season menus. Epic as hell. And I love how the Smallville DVDs had a little intro right before the menu starts. Just a shame non of the blus don't have them! ![]() |

Almost every time I watch a blu it automatically skips the previews and menus so I can't say much about that but I absolutely hate it when a menu will contain video clips in the background (with or without audio) that are clearly from the middle/later in the movie. After all the effort I put into avoiding news and trailers about a film the last thing I want is for things to get spoiled in the comfort of my own home

The coolest menu I've ever seen is for Criterion's Thief. The music is amazing and it really gets you pumped up for the movie. I must've watched it loop 10 times before I started watching the movie.
I also like the menu for A Clockwork Orange 40th anni. |
