I am frustrated. LG just exchanged my 42" TV for another one today. If you saw my other thread, it had a problem with the lighting. It has a white "V" shaped inconsistency in the black level.
This "new" set has the following problems: 1. Slightly worse background, now in 2 areas. Off-green color where it's brighter that colors the a dark picture slightly green in corners where it's not consistent. 2. 2 stuck pixels Please see this and tell me if you think it isn't a problem, or if I'm just too picky! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

If it bugs you, then ask for another replacement or just change a brand. Sorry to hear.

That is a problem.
However, my Plasma has a 'side panel level' setting which controls the intensity of the outer edges of the screen. If your LCD has a similar thing it may be worth playing around with. Also, it may be a 'run in' issue. My Martin Logan speakers had a 200 hour run in time, although it's strange for a TV to require running in. At the end of the day, if you're not happy then get a replacement. I would if mine had the same problem. |

Thanks for everyone's comments so far. I am going to try for a refund. The problem is that I had my first TV since Jan 30. It has a 1 year warranty.
I would buy a Samsung next time around (Sony is priced sky-high in Korea, and not even a possibility). |

Ok, this is where it gets weird...
I let the TV cool for a few hours, and now it looks a whole lot better. Would it just have needed turning on and off (degaussing, in a way), or cooling? Have any of you experienced this with your LCD? I have now found 4 bad pixels. I read somewhere on the web that those can be "unstuck" sometimes. I'll run it a few hours and see what happens... |

Well, he (serice guy) was here for an hour, for the third time, and left telling my girlfriend on the phone that all LCDs look like this, and he's sorry I am not satisfied. He believes that any replacement LCDs will look the same, and I told him that if it's manufactured the same, then probably. I wanted my money back, but that is doubtful.
We are still pushing through the main service center. I hinted that I would consider a PDP from them, if it were of equal value (it'd have to be a 50" to equal the cost of this FULL HD 42" set). We'll see by tomorrow, I hope. He said he didn't think anything else could be done. I am not a happy camper, and they know it. |

The cooling off makes the internal components change slightly in position (you know, metal expands and all that stuff) so when it heats up it might show the backlight bleed again. It's up to you if that particular sample's bleed is bothersome and calls for an exchange. Stuck pixels can sometimes be unstuck by appliying some signals but that doesn't work most of the time and you already went from 2 to 4...in a few hours? so mmm.. your call. When I buy a TV I first calibrate it roughly on first turn on, and then let it run for a few hours, calibrate it more prescisely, and leave it on for a day or two to see how it fares soon enough. |

Well, thanks so much to a really nice LG salesperson (and most definately my girlfriend as well), I am getting a new TV -- so LG is standing behind their product well enough.
The service guy came back again (3rd time this week) and after an hour, told me, "LCDs just look like that." I wasn't happy at all, and politely told him. He said he'd check with the service center about what else might be done. In the meantime, I headed down to another LG store and talked to a really nice service guy who took a look at the photos I had of my set online (listed above). He agreed that there was indeed a problem. He called the service center again for me. So the service center called me soon after that, listened to my story, and kindly told me that the service guy said the set was, "OK", and that they didn't need to do anything else. That made my blood boil (my gf and I expected this). I argued with LG on the phone, and had to get very angry (I hate doing that).before they finally agreed to give me the cost of my TV towards another LG model. That's fair enough. So, just for the record, LG did try to please me, and I am happy for that. It just took some arm-twisting, and a really great LG salesman (who wasn't the guy who originally sold it to me in the first place). I've given up on their LCD models, however, and will go with one of their 1080i PDPs. So I'm "stepping down" from a Full 1080P model with a digital vcr inside, but going to a new 50" PDP model that's 1080i instead. Maybe some may think it's not smart to go to 1080i from 1080p, but I honestly never noticed a lot of value in the difference when looking at HD material. The thing I don't get is this... Everyone says that PDP has better black levels, but I felt the LCDs had better details in the blacks. I'm guessing this feeling will all change when I get the thing in my house and turn down the lights? It'll come on Saturday. Hope it all works with my PS3! On the blacks thing, LCDs slow the light right down to create black whilst Plasmas actually turn off the pixel, therefore the blacks should be a lot stronger.
I've had perfection from my Panasonic Plasma, superb low level contrast and excellent motion. Hope you're pleased with your new one! You could do with some good luck mate. Last edited by Filterlab; 05-16-2007 at 11:00 AM. |

I'm sorry to hear that. Did you leave it on for a long time in the strange chance that when warmed up maybe the buzz faded away? Did the PDP model buzz in the store? (Difficult to tell in a store I know) Well at least if your room is quiet you can prove it easier this time to the service guy. (Unless its a high pitched buzz and he's already deaf on those tones.) (But you can prove it to him if he doesn't hear it by telling him to turn on and off the TV while youre not looking at it with your back turned (or blindfolded!) and telling him: It's on I hear the buzz, it's off etc. Buying a monitor is sometimes as stressful as buying a house!
Hopefully everything will work out |

No, it didn't seem to buzz in the store.
It buzzes at different times, most often in HDTV mode, or when using the PS3, but it comes and goes at different levels of loudness througout all programming. LG Service coming out AGAIN for the 5th time (not including TV deliveries) in a week and a half. This is insane. This is my 3rd LG TV (first two were LCD, and this PDP) and I have yet to get a TV that works correctly, or doesn't have some kind of glaring issue. NEVER EVER EVER BUY AN LG TV!!! |

A few years ago I had to return 3 top of the line LG DVD players since they did not work correctly. I have had some bad experience with LG products and try and stay away from them. The DVD-ROM drive in my computer is a LG player and it seams to be working ok. DVD-ROM drives for computers are made so cheap these days that most of the time I have to replace them once a year since the eject stops working.

I work at Sears, i know how it feels to be on the other end, and even though the Sales rep ani't the brightest person or the nicest. I have had my share of crap happen to me, where I could do nothing. Such as furniture that I have ordered for custimers come in broken during shiping, and I gota let them know they must wait again for another 4 weeks (Hawaii). Many times we have sales and the product that's on sale did not come in yet (Hawaii). A couple of times, delivery had soiled matresses i have ordered fr customers. Who get's the blame, me. But these kinds of problems are out of my hands, Try not to get angery on things that can be controled, life's to short for that. I would have tried to adjust brightness, color level, contrast, and sharpness. before exchanging. Som TV's default settings are not that great. I used a DVD with a THX optimizer applet to ajust my set, and man now it looks sweet ![]() Most electronics stores have a 30-day return period. After that it's up to the manufacture to handle your Manufactuer warranty. It's best to buy a store warranty since they do exchanges almost with no questions asked. Though after you do the warranty replacement, you must renew it for the replacement. If it's past the return date on reciept, and no store warranty, then your stuck with LG customer service. And I hate to say but just by the pics and your descriptions, it probably will not fall under warranty. |

Same thing happened to my neighbor. Returned his LG LCD maybe 3 times and then Best Buy couldn't keep giving him another so they put the money towards another brand. P.S. I love your avatar pic ![]() |
