Default samsung 1200 blue ray

is there a reason why this unit wants to keep to turning off every 10 to 20 minutes?

Maybe it's because you spelled Blu-Ray with an 'E'. Mine works fine and I spell Blu-Ray without the 'E'

Seriously though sounds like a defective unit...maybe your power cord is loose? A Sleep setting?

If you pause the movie and walk away for some protracted period of time, the unit will go into screensaver mode and eventually (I've never timed it) appear to turn off (red ring around the on button). Hit play and the movie starts nearly instantly, so the player's not really off, but in some deeper sleep mode.

If your player is turning off whilst playing a movie, it's defective.

Is there anyway to turn off the screensaver mode to keep it from turning off to the red light?

It's been weeks since I read the manual and did the setup, but I don't recall any user settings for this. Why is this a concern, anyways? It only happens when you're not watching and is designed to save your screen and to reduce general wear and tear to the player.

Its not a major concern but I don't usually like to buy players that use these kind of features.
Is the new blue ray player coming out from sony gonna be like this with a sleeptimer mode?

Sounds like a typical energy-saving feature.

Why would you be bothered with your DVD shutting down after you leave it on pause for over 15 minutes?

If I do sell my samsung 1200 unit I would likely ask about $800 for it.

I have a Samsung sleep mode on one of my old standard DVD players. I use to really hate the feature but learned to get use to it. Sometimes the sleep feature does not return to the exact place I left off in the menu.
For a used Samsung BD-P1200 if you want to sale it I would recommend EBAY. No one is going to pay $799 for a used player. Also people can sometimes find a new BD-P1200 online at a discount mail order store for $599. A few weeks ago I verified a price of $605.34 from a place. They are now currently out of stock on the item. They had around 9 in stock but I was not interested in the player for myself just doing research.
My point is if you really want to sale this player do it soon since many online places when they get more stock in a few weeks or so will be selling this BD-P1200 for $599. Also if you purchased at a retail store in the last 30 days you can return it for a full refund.
** If you place this player on EBAY you might only get $400 for the player since it is used. ** Under ideal conditions you might get $500+.

I brought it at buy.com but I used google checkout so can not really return it because google checkout only has a 14 day return policy. I can try to return this back to samsung directly for a refund?

Samsung only handles warranties, if Buy.com does not return it your only other real option is EBAY. You might want to keep it if you can get use to the sleep feature.

What about the new blue ray player coming out from Sony? Is it gonna be like Samsung's 1200 unit with the sleep timer mode?

The Sony most likely will not have the sleep timer mode. That is something Samsung likes to do for some DVD and BLU-RAY models. Just to make sure the Sony does not have sleep timer mode wait until Sony places the instruction manual on its website before purchasing the Sony. The Sony is scheduled to sale in retail stores for $599 in late July, about a month after launch you should be able to pick up the second generation Sony for around $499 from discount mail order companies. The advantage of retail stores is the 30 day return policy with no restocking fee. Since retail stores have no restocking fees and it costs more money to run retail stores prices at retail stores are almost always higher then mail order Internet companies.
