Default Moontrap: Target Earth (2014)

I haven't seen the original B-movie cheesy greatness but it looks like a Moontrap sequel is coming out...

I don't know if it's direct to video (most likely is my guess) and according to a youtube post by Tex Ragsdale (the writer of the original Moontrap)...
Quote:
News for anyone interested: the original Moontrap will be re-issued in a few months in Blu-ray (late spring, early summer) AND a new Moontrap film is now in pre-pro - "Moontrap: Target Earth." No BS - fully funded. Regular updates on Facebook page - Moontrap: Target Earth and Twitter -@MTTargetEarth.
Quote is from this video's youtube page...

So good news for Moontrap fans. I just found out about the original movie and I want to get it.

I was just recently made aware of a German release of Moontrap (1989), if they are making a sequel there may be hopes of the original being released here in the US. Sadly the original never saw a format other then VHS.

Here are some screenshots. The grain is all scrubbed away leaving us with wax figurines. The old VHS probably has more detail. Avoid like the plague:

Actually from what I read about the German release, the DVD actually has better PQ and detail (Da Hell?), but supposedly Olive Films is releasing this later this year according to the sequel's facebook page. Olive is noted for leaving transfers unmolested by DNR, so hopefully the eventual US release will be a big step up PQ wise.

Default Moontrap Sequel

I just attended the premier of Moontrap Target Earth. It was a sequel/re-imagining. I've met the director before and he's a good guy, but man, this film is a mess. He said he had been working on it too long and it shows. It appeared as though he forgot where he left off and just started working on stuff at random points. Plot holes a plenty, random evil robot attacks though is shown early on with the human/mooninite love interest, ideas that just never make connections, and spotty acting. I have no idea what it's being released on if any format, but it sure makes me appreciate the original a lot more.

That stinks, I was hoping that the sequel would be way better than the original.
