So what does this mean in terms of timeline for when we will see profile 1.1 and 2 players on sale and hence when Warner might be able to release the discs that are waiting for this? I know support for 1.1 is mandatory from Nov onwards, but presumably manufacturers can release 1.1 or 2 compliant hardware sooner than that if they want? And once there are several players on the market, there's no reason for Warner to wait any longer as they will be able to test their discs against multiple players.
It's an exciting time for Blu-ray! |

That made me laugh... Such a great response.
I hope I can get a player with one of these bad boys by christmas or early next year. I did have a quick question for you, kjack. Is it safe to assume that some of those ports won't be used when that board is implemented into a BD player? I just don't see a BD player on the market with 3 HDMI outputs, and SATA connections right now. |

What isn't used would be deleted from the final design by the player manufacturer. Some player manufacturers have a preference of HDMI chip, SATA chip, etc. so we just put them all on the board and include the drivers to minimize the HW and SW impact for them.

The main reason for me to advocate two HDMI ports is so that people can connect it to the receiver (then to the HDTV) and connect it directly to the HDTV. That way if you want to watch it late night, you don't have to power up your receiver just to see the video. Of course you could always get a splitter to do this. The other way is if receivers can pass HDMI signals along even if they are just on standby and not powered on. fuad |
