Default Warner's "Pushing Daisies: Season 1" Blu-ray - September 16

Quote:
Warner Home Video has announced the 1st season of Pushing Daisies which stars Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride, and Jim Dale. The 3-disc package will be available to own from the 16th September, and should retail at around $29.98. A Blu-ray release will also be available for $39.99. All 9 episodes will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. As far as we know, the only extra material will be a Pie Time - Time for Pie interactive featurette in which cast and crew dish out forkfuls of series secrets. We've attached the official package artwork below:

I'm ecstatic about this release. I'm really pleased with WB's commitment to TV on Blu Ray. I'll be picking this up for sure.

Definitely a pick-up for me. When I saw the show on my flatscreen, I said to myself that this was a show that really shows off what HD can do. So this and two season of HEROES are on my must list for BD purchases.

Now if they could only re-release that new SE of season 1 of 24 on Blu-Ray, that would be perfect.

YES

My thoughts within the first 5 minutes of the season opener were: "This needs a Blu-ray release at all."

Very happy about this news

Like posted earlier, this shows colors on blu-ray should be outstanding!

I'd also like to see Eli Stone for the same reason.

This is really a title out of leftfield for Warner. While I agree the show looked good in broadcast HD I really wonder how they arrived at this particular title releasing on BD. For demographic reasons alone I'd imagine a title like Supernatural(recently announced for another season on dvd with no commensurate BD) would sell better.

While I would have LIKED to have seen "Supernatural" on Blu, I didn't really expect it so much. This show, I expected, and was kind of surprised when Amazon put only the DVD up for pre-order. Unlike "Supernatural", PD only had 9 episodes which could easily fit on three BD-25s (and would clog up replication much). "Supernatural" would have required more BD-25s, or WB would have been forced to upgrade to BD-50s.

Or so we thought...

TVShowsOnDVD.com has shown finalized Blu-ray box art for the first season release of "Pushing Daisies" which shows the series arriving in a cardboard box (ala DVD season sets). This is a change of practice for WB who have previously released series sets in multi-disc Blu-ray packaging.

Of course, this also brings up several questions:

1. The box art looks similar to my "Ocean's Trilogy" box set with three individual cases inside. Will this set be similar to S4 of "Lost" in that you can have your choice of packaging between the cardboard style associated with DVD or the Blu-ray cases (ala "Blade Runner", "Smallville, "Prison Break"), or will it be the fold-out kind (ala DVD sets)?

2. Does this represent a change in WB's TV-on-Blu-ray packaging? S1 of "Torchwood" also shows the cardboard style packaging. "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "Justice League", and "Smallville" all show BD cases, but up until now, so did "Pushing Daisies". "Smallville" in particular would be annoying given the difference in packaging style from the previous season...

TV box sets changing in design between seasons are extremely annoying. For this reason I no longer buy individual seasons of shows, I will only buy the whole lot as one set after the show has ended. Given that TV shows can run for periods of time that are not far off the lifespan of a format, this means I often don't buy them at all because by the time they release the whole lot in a consistent format I want them in the new format not the old format. E.g. I bought Alias S1 then S2 on DVD and was disgusted that the packaging was different so I didn't buy further seasons. By the time the whole lot were released on DVD I had pretty much stopped buying DVDs because I was looking ahead to Blu-ray instead. I wonder how many sales they lose because of this, when it ought to be so simple for them to keep the same packaging format across all seasons.

A good example of them getting it right was Buffy and Angel here in the UK, where they had very individual packaging but they stuck with the format so we got a nice matching set for our shelves.
