I have a Pioneer VSX-1120 receiver and I feel its time for me to upgrade to a new receiver. The price range that I'm willing to pay is $850 to $950. I have a 3.1 channel system that consists of Polk Audio TSI300 floor standing speakers, Polk Audio CS10 center speaker, and a Polk Audio DSW Pro 400 subwoofer. I have no plans to upgrade to new speakers and a new sub. I will be using my Sennheiser HD558 headphones occasionally. The sources that I will be using are: Oppo BDP-103, Roku 3, and Sony Playstation 4 (I will be purchasing it this summer).
Here are the features that I want in my new receiver: 1. Excellent sound quality from stereo to multi-channel sources 2. Must have a decent headphone output 3. Headphone surround sound 4. Pure DSD signal via HDMI when playing SACDS (if not, its ok, I can let the Oppo BDP-103 convert DSD to PCM). 5. Easy to use 6. Reliable 7. Good build quality 8. Pure Direct mode 9. Auto Lip sync correction Right now I'm looking at the Yamaha RX-A830 and the Marantz SR5008. So please recommend which one of these two and why? or if you have another receiver in mind please tell me and why? |

![]() The Denon X4000 should be considered. The Onkyo 929 is this years 818? except for the 818, you might have to consider a refurb for the budget you have set??? Last edited by sonic_debauchery; 04-17-2014 at 06:47 PM. |

Did you consider the new Emotiva Fusion 8100? I'm just throwing it out there as I haven't read any reviews. Not a huge feature set but seems interesting. And the 65 wpc is an honest rating (110 pwc in 2 ch). If you need more it has a full pre out. Don't know for DSD though.
Just another affordable offering ![]() Good luck ![]() Edit: By the way, the reason I was mentioning it is because you mentioned a good headphone amp, which I believe the 8100 boasts as one of its features. Last edited by pentatonic; 04-17-2014 at 07:15 PM. |

If you care about audio quality in a receiver for that price range you should look at an NAD T757 for $850...
http://www.spearitsound.com/product....0&product=4943..Spearit Sound also has a refurbished one for $750! NAD T757 information My T747 has excellent headphone output (use Dolby Surround mode when gaming with headphones) and my Denon AH-D2000 headphones really brings out the details of SACD's. I run analog for SACD though, Yamaha DVD-S1800 5.1 analog outs to NAD T747 analog in to NAD C 275BEE amp. Polk Audio midrange and up speakers powered by NAD equipment make a great audio combo...natural sounding and HIGHLY detailed output. These two videos were with my crappy, near 30 year old NAD PE 2200 amp I had before I got the C275BEE and I was using an iPod, which sucks for recording accurate audio (especially the low end and bass impacts), but with all that said: Last edited by Vracer111; 04-20-2014 at 04:22 AM. |

You're absolutely right, I should wait for the HDMI 2.0 receivers. I'm thinking of trying out the Pioneer Elite VSX-80 in the Fall.

Im liking the new line up of Pio's myself with them spreading down the line their improved sabre DAC and now have sub EQ through MCAAC which will make it much more attractive when compared to Audessey etc. I was never a fan of placing the mic at multiple points around the room. KISS principle is best IMO.
