Default The Crow 20th anniversary

This year is the 20th anniversary to one of the coolest comic book films, one of the finer 90s action films and a nice mix of gothic horror, realistic crime drama and dark fantasy.

This is Alex Proyas's best film with Dark City and what a nice cast this has like Brandon Lee (RIP), Ernie Hydson and David Patrick Kelly, atmosphere, gritty dark themes, grim violence and good storytelling.

I saw this movie 4 times in theaters when i was turning 13 and loved it, i even bought the graphic novel with the cards, t-shirt, mug, poster and CD soundtrack as it became one of my favorite movies ever.

The film has became an influential cult classic after being a box-office hit and critical hit and some directors like Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, Guillermo Del Toro and some others liked this one.

Who thinks this predates Nolan's Batman trilogy, Sin City, Watchmen etc. in terms of dark gritty atmospheric comic noir films?

The Crow is one of my favorites, it does predate but its not the only one that does. I've seen The Crow so many times I know the dialog of it. First sequel was ok, didn't care for the others.

Can't believe it's 20 years old! I was obsessed with this movie. Think I saw it 5 times in the theaters and I used to listen to the soundtrack non-stop. Still one of my favorite comic book movies.

One of the best graphic novel/comicbook adaptations ever made, if not the best...and the first of its kind I think.

The Crow is one of my all-time favorite horror/action movies, as well as being one of the best films of the '90's. A great film to watch at anytime, but especially around Halloween. I like how most of the film takes place at night, which really adds to the brooding atmosphere. The city may as well be another character in the film, i.e. the gothic cathedral, old & run-down buildings, etc. Also love the early '90's hard rock/alternative soundtrack - superb, and really adds to the movie; this is definitely one of my top five favorite film soundtracks....

I saw some of the Crow sequels that came out later, but they were not even close close to being as good as the original.

And, The Crow Blu was one of the first Blu's I got after I first got my player....

I disliked the sequels but liked the TV show.

Anyone read the graphic novel?

I liked the sequels up until the last one with Furlong as the Crow but I can actually say I saw it. I remember being in school and the big talked about players in the imagination of children were Candyman and the Crow. I remember having a conversation with this kid where his parents would let him watch all these horror movies and those were the two characters he would always draw when there was an assignment to draw "Your favorite people" or "Draw your favorite movie". (I drew Bill and Ted btw)

Is the scene where Brandon gets shot in the film? Is it when Funboy shoots him?

No the scene is not in the film, the footage has never been released to anyone BUT the family.

Quote:
Brandon died at the age of 28 on the set of The Crow (1994). The film crew shot a scene in which it was decided to use a gun without consent from the weapons coordinator, who had been sent home early that night. They handed Michael Massee the gun loaded with full power blanks and shot the scene, unaware a bullet head from an inert round had accidentally been lodged in the barrel. Even though the gun was pointed away from Lee, the force from the blank curved the flight of the bullet head and it shattered his spinal cord. The crew only noticed when Lee was slow getting up. The doctors worked desperately for five hours, but it was no use. After his spinal cord was shattered, he had no chance of survival. He was pronounced dead at 1:04 P.M. the next day. He was supposed to marry Eliza Hutton on April 17, 1993. His body was flown to Seattle to be buried beside his father in Lake View Cemetery.

One of my favorite films as a kid, I think I wore out my VHS. So much cooler than the comic book crap we get now for the most part. What a soundtrack! Brandon Lee was legendary in it and his death is one of the saddest things I ever heard happen on a film set. I think he would have gone on and done so much awesome stuff.

Great film and one of the few graphic novels I have bothered to read. Not really a comic fan but I really enjoy both.

I had it bookmarked on Amazon for the longest, but never got around to ordering it. I think there may be more stories, though. I remember reading about a completely different series of comics in The Crow universe.

Thuy Trang was in "The Crow: City of Angels". Bai Ling was in "The Crow". I know Asian people look alike, but still...
