Default BD player's up-scaling capabilities

Would you spend $100 on a upscaling DVD player or just go all out at $400 to get a BD player to upscale my DVDs. (I have a 32 720P in the BR BTW)

This is for my bed room set and probably wont be watching BDs in my room, just for some old DVDs that we have and HD Cables.

But having the idea of watching a BD from bed is not that bad, but just not sure if I want to fork out another $400-500 for a BD player or get the package of $299 PS3 + $100 BD deal from WM.

Default Check this

I still use this player over my Blu for playing standard DVD's.
Uses one of the best scalers available today and the output could be set to your tv's standard resolution. Comes packed with an HDMI cable to boot.

This is the forum thread about the PS3 + $100 worth of BDs from WM.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=50983

Thanks for the input, but the link is a dead one.

Pleas check it again?

I am still not too sure if I want to get the PS3 or upscale DVD player.

I have seen some HD DVD players for less than $100 I believe. Even tho HD is dead, but I have heard that they are nice upconverters.

...I was actually surfing the net from my bed last night.

Im glad I got a second PS3 for the room. If its money to spend might as well make it worth the while!

...then I popped in GTA4.

Does your TV have HDMI inputs or component? FYI, BD players and ps3's only upconvert via HDMI. If your TV has component inputs you will have to use alternate means to upconvert.

Just my opinion, but I don't think you have anything to gain by putting a BD player on a 32" TV. A standard upconverting DVD player will yield an equally impressive picture.

I wouldn't think the scaling ability in a $100 player would be any better than the scaler in your TV. Also - unless you are sitting close to your TV, I don't think any scaler will give you much of a benefit.

Another thing to keep in mind is that eventually you would either have to double-dip or not be able to watch any new movies in the bedroom since all your new movies are blu-rays....
