I scored an Attenborough narrated version of Life on ebay the other night for $35. My local best buy only carried the Oprah narrated one.

You can get the Attenborough Life set for between $30-$40 on ebay from what I could tell. It’s $47 on amazon right now……@ least it was when I looked yesterday.

I saw first 3 episodes from 2007 transfer - was surprised to see 4,5 mark, because on Panni 50ST60 the picture was quite mediocre - almost all footage, except aero shots, has noise, dithering, low resolution, etc. Almost painful to watch. Life is way better.

I just bought the globe, brand new, from Ebay. But I noticed that mine didn't include the small plaque(?) that shows what edition it is out of the numbered collection. It didn't get ripped off because the padding is still intact. Anyone else have this problem?

I also noticed that there wasn't a listing for the Planet Earth Globe DVD. The first globe I bought, I thought was the blu ray but it turned out to be the DVD. I'll be adding the listing shortly.

So I have a superficial question regarding packaging.

To anybody who owns or has seen the boxset of Planet Earth: Special Edition and Life, does anyone know if this is a complete repackage, or if the individual digipacks are simply placed in an outer box?

That a typo, did you mean you scored one for $25?

A few BB near me are carrying Life. Hope they still have a few when U&S hits.

Does anyone here have this collection? Is it the two digipaks or is it two regular blu-ray cases? Can anyone post a pic or describe how this set looks?

Keep in mind that the standard for blu-ray in 2007 is quite different than it is today. This was used on demo sets everywhere. Life came along wayyy after the fact.

That, and it's not like the HD video cameras used for Planet Earth were nearly as advanced either.

I had the same question as you and I PMed one of the members that had it in their collection. This is the response I received.

It's been a while since I looked at it, but I'm pretty sure that's it. I'll check when I'm home later, and let you know otherwise.
So it sounds like the original digipaks are stored in the outer box.

Thanks! I was looking for an unboxing but couldn't find one.

I think I'm going to end up going for the individual sets, since I'd like each set to have its own slipcase. But this is a nice set.

By the way, strumdogg followed up his reply with a photo of his set as well:

Yeah I got the individuals, too. I think I paid like $47 total for both at Best Buy (on separate occasions).

Last year around Earth Day, I believe Best Buy had them on sale for $26.99 and $19.99, respectively. AND they had U&S going on at the time. I totally failed by not taking advantage of that.

I think I'm just going to jump on them at Amazon's current price ($57 for the two), since I don't think they'll be going on sale again until either the holiday season or Earth Day again next year.

or this?

I'm assuming this will work on a U.S. blu-ray player? And that there should be no differences between this and the U.S. set, right?

Anyone who has the 2007 release be willing to trade the artwork for the Special Edition packaging?

Depends on your player. While they are region free you would need a player that can handle 50hz which a lot can't. Especially Sony players.
