Alright, so I am pretty much moving my entire family to Blu-Ray and currently I have only a few movies and one PS3.
Unfortunately only three of my TV's support HDMI and 1080p, all of which are at my condo. Two of them will be using a blu-ray player, seeing as how my parents do not really care what they watch or use as long as it works. My other TV does not use HDMI, but does support 1080i which is the same resolution I use for my 54" projection screen TV with my PS3. It does fine for me, at least until we upgrade those two TV's. I'm looking for a player that will look good externally as well as on-screen. Obviously I am not made of money, so I can't go out spending 700+ dollars on each player. I just need some help finding already available and upcoming players that are relatively cheap but still produce a pretty picture. Any help? Last edited by fugitsu; 05-24-2008 at 05:18 AM. |

The only problem with buying more PS3's is that I really don't want to have like 4 PS3's in my possession. It just seems weird, to be honest. And I'll edit my main post to make it a little more literate. |

It's gonna be weird having 4 of whatever it is you decide on anyways. Visiting this site I'm always amazed at the quantity of TV's people have in their house. If you don't want 4 PS3's then go to walmart and buy an el cheapo or get on ebay and buy one used, but you asked for the best blu ray for the money and it most definitely is the PS3.

Most new and pertinent info is on the main page, but just check out the forum for BD players. Lots of good stuff in there. Most of the new players coming out are between 500-700 dollars and i wouldn't know which of those to recommend because you haven't specified what you want as far as audio, features, and compatability goes. |

There is a new Funai player at walmart for $298 plus tax. I recently picked up a 40GB PS3 on craigslist for $320 new. If you are willing to take a small risk you can get a good deal purchasing on craigslist. |

If you can handle the fact that it plays video games, its a great deal. |

I'll second this player. Even though I've had it only for a day, so far it's been working perfectly fine and does a great job on my 46" 1080i RCA LCD HDTV. It might not have all of the bells and whistles of the other big name players but thats fine with me. ![]() |

The best player IMO is the cheapest player you can find. So much is changing so fast that it doesn't make sense to drop a load of money on Blu-Ray. In the next couple of years it's either going to tank like SACD or survive. If it survives, much better stand alone players will be available for a fraction of the price you are seeing now. The Funai will serve you well till then.

The guy is buying 4 blu ray players. That's a chunk of change even if he buys the funai. We need to support blu ray so it does survive. |

PS3 is the best value. Even the $499 80GB version is still a better value than any of the stand alone players currently on the market. You can do so much more with a PS3 than you can a stand alone BD player. Also, despite the size of the PS3 I don't think it is ugly at all.
This situation isn't going to change until later this summer when several new BD Profile 2.0 players arrive on the market, most notably the new players from Sony. Prices are also beginning to fall. For months I've seen Panasonic charging $500 or more for the DMP-BD30. Now Wal-Mart is selling it for $450. The Samsung BD-P1500 costs $350 at the same store. The Funai player is just under $300. |

I gotta ask, why would anyone move their entire family to BD? You can buy excellent upconverting DVD players for less than $100. I can see having one BD per residence, but any more than that doesn't make sense. The format is to young to make that kind of investment. Just my 2 cents, John |
