Finally got around to this tonight.

It looked amazing in 3D! The stream was perfect hi-def and there was a solid amount of depth.

This simply must be released on 3D Blu!

Australia New Zealand -the wait is nearly over

Had to use the Aussie flag icon - coz theres no New Zealand one.....

So...Mightyape sent me an email the other day that included a discount code (becaiuse I hadnt purchased off them for a while) With Free Birds just around the corner and not a lot else on the radar I decided to take the plunge and order the sucker......Got $10 off so it came to NZ$25.

Hoping this wont be one of those "I regret it" buys as I dont even think this movie hit theaters here in New Zealand....release is May 1, so should have it by the end of the week! Cant wait to see how the 3D stacks up.....

The UK version, like the U.S., is not in 3D.
For a 3D version you need to look to Germany Region B (A,C untested),
Australia Region B (A,C untested),

Or Brazil - that is in region A, but with a Portuguese cover:

Email sent....Frre Birds has shipped, I should get it on release day!

I'll check the region for you - but it is listed as "B" and usually BR's released here in New Zealand are pretty accurate on that....Just as a point of interest is there anyway of testing BR's for region without needing a region specific player (I ask this because I got a title a while back that said it was "region A" but when I put it in my Region B player it worked fine.....

Do these releases come with a separate 2d blu-ray disc? I'm considering importing either the Australia or New Zealend release to the states.

Thanks,
Tom

Why the fack would they release a 3D version in Brazil but not in the US?

How do you import from some of these countries? I know the UK is easy b/c of Amazon/uk. But how would you import from Brazil, for example?

I haven't bought the US version b/c I'm pissed about the no 3D. I bought it on iTunes in HD when it hit $10. It's absolutely gorgeous (streaming it from the cloud). I bet the 3D looks great.

I dont understand why they would only release a 3D version of free birds in certain areas/countries. I'm however in Australia so therefore can get my hands on it very easily. For others that are interested here is a link to buy it from over here, and yes they ship internationally just not sure of cost etc. Hope this helps

Thanks Chris.

Will the pq be the same in 2d as the 2d blu-ray only release that I purchased in the US? I planned on selling it to help with the high cost of importing the 3d. I'll keep it if the 2d pq isn't equal.

Ordering from Brazil can be very difficult but not impossible for North American collectors.. Brazillian online sites are in Portuguese and with variable external English translation software are hit and miss at best = (can be undependable with inaccurate results). Security is also at question with requested information risk. Some sites require vital passport document information that can confuse the purpose of the transaction.

I am going to place my order with jbhifi. I imported from them last year and was very happy with their service. I only wish I could add some titles not released in the US.

It's a "Roadshow" release so I would imagine that both the Aussie release and the New Zealand release will be one and the same (kinda strange we got it first here in NZ)....1 disc = 2d/3d - and locked at region B!

Also pay to note that the UV code is Aussie/NZ locked too!

Waited to post this until after I received and viewed the native to Region A "Free Birds Blu-ray 3D" from Brazil . This was released on March 14, 2014 and it is the only available region A Blu-ray 3D version that I know of to date.

.

Now verified region-free (Regions A,B,C)

The good news is that the native to region A 3D movie is the complete original U.S. production, having the original English DTS HD HR 5.1 audio track. It has the original English Titles ("Free Birds" on the film, not "BonsDeBico" that is listed on the Brazilian cover-insert) and it has the original end credits. (English DTS HD HR 5.1 is available as the 2nd language choice on the disc, the "Default" is in the Portuguese language. The "Top Menu" has Portuguese and Spanish choices, so there is no English for the movie trailers that are also in Portuguese and or Spanish.

The movie, is actually quite-good, surprising to me after reading some of the review comments here. If I had gone, I know I would have enjoyed it at the theater. The production has several thrilling medium to strong 3D CGI moments making the 3D an important-part of this movie, which also has me wondering why the movie wasn't released in the U.S. in 3D. IMO, this is great family entertainment for the whole-family in a "Thanksgiving Holiday season" tradition having the "First Thanksgiving" atmosphere theme, and there is also some great Pilgrim/Indian settlement graphics!

Finding a way to securely order this from Brazil was a difficult challenge for me, but I got lucky finding a Brazilian resident on Blu-ray.com that buys locally and register-mails it as a gift!

For those interested, visit the Blu-ray.com thread: "Need help ordering from Brazil". ThiagoPE has been very reliable. I paid him through PayPal which automatically converts to foreign currency as a choice and then he mailed the 3D version the same day.

Mail history:
The disc was paid for, and shipped registered mail on April 30. My first U.S. confirmation the package was in the system came on May 7 "customs" was preparing shipment, on May 15 it was processed through USPS Sort Facility, and on May 16, Out for Delivery. Mail is slow from South America but it came securely intact.

Paul
