Grab a GEN 1 player for a hundred bucks! I need another Blu player for the bedroom, where I'm not concerned about sound or special features... just a fabulous picture. I'm thinking of grabbing another BDP-S1 if I can find the deals like some others here who bought it for around 100 bucks, from places like Best Buy as a refurb.

Sony really screwed me with that format. Sony has a long trail of failed formats, Beta, mini disc and SACD.

I gotta ask, why would anyone move their entire family to BD? You can buy excellent upconverting DVD players for less than $100. I can see having one BD per residence, but any more than that doesn't make sense. The format is to young to make that kind of investment.

Just my 2 cents,

John
If thats your thought/thinking process then why in f$#ks name are you on this forum?

Why would I? I've never owned a HD-DVD player or disc. I don't get emotional about this stuff. I just look for the best bang for the buck in terms of PQ and price. I really don't care who gives it to me. And I don't have anything against Sony, I have a lot of their products.

Ahh.. Cause I'm a Blu-Ray owner... Just like you, who wants to keep abreast of software and hardware deals. And Blu-Ray software reviews from fellow Blu-Ray owners. Or am I in the wrong place?

I guess being fiscally responsible not appreciated by some.

BTW, why are you here?

Just making a point, Sony's a big business and they make a lot of mistakes just like all companies. There is no reason people should ignore reason and be a fanboy, with statements like we need to support this technology. This technology is young, very expensive and not for everyone. It may not even be successful in the long run. It's still got to beat things like Comcast HD OnDemand and other cable and satellite company HD content. I know it's not as good as BD, but to the masses it looks dam good and they don't have to buy hardware and rent software.

It sounds like you have a mix of needs. I like the idea mentioned earlier of getting a gently used gen1 or gen2 player for the non-HDMI/DVI TVs and stick with the PS3s for the rest. You can get extended maintenance on a player from most manufacturers. There's no doubt that the PS3 is the best all around player for the buck.
