Default Can you touch type?

Learned to touch type when I was 11. Now even looking at the keyboard slows me down.

I can type blindfolded, with my eyes closed, with my back turned to the keyboard, but I can't type in the dark. Not sure why not, but I can't.

Yep. I find it useful when I need to take a 30-second "flash nap" in the middle of the afternoon.

Haha, same. I guess it's because I'm usually tired when it's dark so I'm not as aware of where the keys are.

A lot of time in high school spent on AIM has trained me well. I can type 90-100 wpm without looking at the keyboard. I sill have some problems with the numbers row, though

Can do about 120-140 wpm depending on my day. Learned it in school and have to say - that is pretty much the only thing that helped me to this day. Lol. Everything else is a joke.

Don't look at the keyboard or anything. Can even have a conversation with someone standing in front of and me looking at them. They get weirded out that I am talking to them coherently and typing super fast at the same time.

My fingers have a mind of their own and they know what my brain wants to say. It's kinda freaky. If I try to think about what I want to say instead of letting my fingers do the talking - things can get fouled up quickly.

I do miss the "clicky" ibm keyboards.

No. I do a rapid-fire hunt and peck. There is no system to it but I can move pretty quick if I want to and rarely make mistakes. I half look at the keyboard and half not. I dunno.

Oh man!! Those things were great, get up to about 180 WPM on those things, and you could drive everybody nuts on them. Clack clickity clackity click! Everybody in the computer lab is staring at you wanting to kill you because you are just making a huge racket. I wonder if you can find those anymore, I picked one up maybe 10 years ago, and even then it was hard to find them. I hate most of the new keyboards because they don't seem to hold up as well, and they are just too slow, you have to press down harder on the membrane below the keys.

Yup. They have new ones in black, with windows buttons and usb - but they are still to bulky for me. I honestly don't think I could stand the constant clack clack clack all the time. I did like them and still do. If they weren't so damn fugly I would get one.

I learned to touch-type on a typewriter just after high-school. Yes, a typewriter. Self-taught too. I was working on a novel at the time and it never got finished.

My typing performance depends on the keyboard layout and the time I can get familiarized with them. I like my Microsoft Natural Keyboard a lot, the only Microsoft product I love, but I stumble with the half keyboard on my laptop.

I also learned on a typewriter in H.S. WAY back when.... and it was MUCH NEEDED when banging out papers in college, and work, etc... Not sure how many words/minute I can type, but I do pretty well.
