Default Sailor Moon Blu-Ray sets beginning Fall 2014

Viz Media announced that they have secured U.S. distribution rights to the entire anime catalogue of Sailor Moon, including all five series, the three theatrically released films, all of the shorts, and the upcoming Sailor Moon Crystal which will premier online (via niconico) on July 5th. Their plans include Blu-Ray high-definition releases of the animated content in addition to online streaming via Hulu. The series has been completely unavailable for U.S. distribution for nearly 10 years, making the previous DVD releases expensive on eBay.

The Blu-Ray release strategy is to release half-season sets beginning this fall. The series will be presented in its original full screen aspect ratio. Language options will be Japanese with new English subtitles, as well as a new English dub that is currently in the works. If Viz's release strategy matches Ranma 1/2, we can expect a new release every 3 months.

The first dubbed episodes won't be available until closer to the first release and a date hasn't been set yet, but Viz is launching the first 4 subtitled episodes on May 19th on Hulu and will add 2 episodes every Monday. The new dub will be more accurate than the original and the episodes will remain unedited in their dubbed format. This will also be the first time the final series (Sailor Stars) has been officially dubbed in English, as well as the shorts.

Viz has released a teaser trailer, which can be seen in the bluray.com announcement. The end of the trailer features Usagi saying "Moon Prism Power Makeup" and is the new uncredited voice actress of Sailor Moon. Series creator Naoko Tekuchi has reportedly approved all of the new English voices.

For those who only knew the original English dub, the unedited Japanese episodes featured themes deemed unsuitable for U.S. children including death, sexual feelings, and LGBT relationships. The final series never received a U.S. dub because the censors couldn't figure out a solution to the new male characters who transform into female sailor soldiers.

We're talking all about it in the anime subforum.

I had no idea that existed. I was wondering why NOBODY was talking about it yet. Sorry for the double post.
