Isn't Shawshank Redemption getting the DigiBook treatment as well?

I really like these actually, I like it when studios take the effort to produce printed materials along with the movie
I can see myself picking up the Dirty Harry, Natural Born Killers and maybe Harry Potter ones I wouldn't be surprised if we saw The Assassination of Jesse James get this treatment. The R2 UK DVD release came with this exact sort of thing, but on DVD |

I like the book style packaging, mainly because the customer gets a nice bonus of a published color booklet in the case. The case isn't cheap in its construction either -unlike the "snapper" cases Warner Bros. used for its first few years of DVD releases.
The only reason I can see why others don't like these book style cases is over a desire to have a very uniform looking Blu-ray disc collection. I have two thoughts about the usual BD cases. First, the standard BD cases don't look all that great. The blue plastic coloring and curvy shape conjures up thoughts of toys, video games and stuff like that. The typical cases aren't tacky looking. But they're not classy either. Second, the cases aren't designed to hold anymore than just the movie disc and some very basic leaflet on the inside. The function of the case is very basic at best. Over the history of the DVD format a number of elaborate disc cases were created to hold more stuff than the typical Amaray kind could accommodate. Some cases were creatively designed. I really liked the 2-disc DVD case for Fight Club. It was one of the first great departures from the usual DVD case design. |

I plan to own every one of these. I really like the packaging and the particular movies they have chosen.
I guess I won't have the Dirty Harry one right away as I bought the set of 5 but I'll likely pick up the single digibook version after. |

Give me a keepcase and include the booklet (that'll be looked at once) neatly placed under the clips that have been included in this perfect packaging design. I'm not sure if I said this before
![]() I also don't like that the packaging of Dirty Harry will likely be inconsistent with the sequels. I doubt Warner will be releasing them individually in digibook packaging. I prefer the way they are being released in the UK: ![]() Last edited by AaronSCH; 05-30-2008 at 02:45 PM. |

I for one don't care for them and I'm reluctant to buy them. There's nothing in the DigiBook that couldn't be put in a booklet that would fit in the standard case.

I bought Bonnie & Clyde and have One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and How The West Was Won on pre-order.
I like the concept. One person who didn't like them said that the height is higher than the standard Blu-ray case. I think that is a valid complaint. The "best" idea would be to keep the Digibook idea but make the height match the typical Blu-ray height. So I'd give the current effort 9/10 with 10/10 reserved for incorporating the lower height. |

Thanks for posting this thread. Now I know how much of a rip off this whole DigiBook concept is and I'll be glad to stay far far away. This is a VERY bad attempt by Warner to get more of our money. The "upgraded"
![]() Good thing they haven't done this kind of a thing for any of the movies I want. Here's hoping they don't do this to Shawshank, but, if they do, I just won't buy that either. |

I can get generic 90's action movie #227 from Amazon for $20, or Bonnie & Clyde for $23. The "upgraded" (or not) packaging has nothing to do with the inherent worth of these titles. |

Sorry, but that is pure bull. They are being packaged in keep cases in the UK and the prices are in line with other releases over seas. I am usually a discount hunter but I am making an exception on the digibooks. I will be buying theses as imports in separate keep cases. And people please refrain from telling us we can print an insert and buy a blank case. I don't wish to do that. I want original packaging.

I have no problem paying the extra few dollars for these releases. It doesn't matter to me if it costs them 10 cents extra to make them digibooks. Last edited by Jimbo976; 05-30-2008 at 02:58 PM. |

What is bull about it? Do you argue that these are not more classic films than the majority of catalogue tripe being released? The only Digibook announced so far that I don't personally feel is a classic is Natural Born Killers, but I accept that other people like it. Bonnie & Clyde, One Flew, Dirty Harry - these are great films. If you don't feel they are worth a whole $3 more than Terminator 3 and Polar Express, hey that's your prerogative - but plenty of people will gladly take all the classic cinema on Blu they can get.
edit: I just read your edit, and you're complaining about the digibooks again instead of just the higher price like I assumed. Well even if Warner is pricing them higher just because of the digibook, myself and others are willing to pay the extremely small extra fee because of the quality of the films and their audio/video presentation. You're willing to pay a significantly higher price to import just for the case - and yet you're saying the rest of us are dumb for paying a small amount extra regardless of the case.
