Default Blu-ray PiP

Whats this shee-it iv been hearing about BD cant support the picture in picture funktion, and therefor Batman Begins, The Matrix Trilogy, Poseidon, and V for Vendetta aint on Blu Ray:/

i cant believe that, can someone tell me if this is true or some HD DVD supporter that just went off and talking shit,

HD-DVD for people with no eyes or ears,

Blu-Ray is for the ones that want picture and audio beyond High Definition

The Profile 1.1 which mandates a second video decoder that would be used for PiP hasn't been finalized yet. I believe player made after Oct 31 of this year must have Profile 1.1 support.

Warner is claiming they want to offer the secondary video PiP for the titles you mentioned, so they are withholding the BD discs until the Profile 1.1 is final (and hence they can author for it safely).

It is typical of the HD DVD supporter to deal in absolutes. Blu-ray (the format) WILL support PiP. The PS/3 could do it today if the specs were final. Most of the first gen stand-alone players probably can't do it.

But, unlike the HD DVD push to triple layer and higher bandwidth that might occur, the movies with PiP WILL play in all players. You may not get PiP. But, you don't get that now either.

Sigma have released a reference kit for profile 1.1 and 2, so I think the spec must be final:

As I understand it, the problem Warner have is that they want there to be multiple players available on the market for them to test their discs against before they will release them.

That would be positive news. I suspect a least one testing round is still pending in the BDA before it is considered final though.

Alas, if Warner is waiting for multiple vendors to test with, that could delay things into 2008.

It depend on what player you have.

The PS3 will need an up-date for PIP
The Samsung1200 will need a update for PIP

the rest of the players that are out now (gen1), well from what I have read, not even with an update will do it.

xcobra that's the second fear uncertainty and doubt thread you have started in less than 5 hours. Please use the search function and read up on previous thread's info before getting histerical and going on about like Disney's March 20 animated BD release

The BDs will play on all the players. just not some of the features

I believe the Pioneer Elite players will be able to do it with an update.

And we should keep in mind that Blu-ray will support HD PiP (for things like swapping the images and getting HD for the behind the scenes part too), while HD DVD so far has locked themselves into SD PiP at low bitrates. Some HD DVD supporters ignore that one of the ways that HD DVD got their PiP out sooner and as standard was by aiming lower. The Blu-ray camp could have locked themselves into standard definition for PiP (unless the spec got changed) also, but they chose not to.

Sometimes HD-DVD fanboys who try to disguise themselves are not very successful at that and their bites aren't deadly when they strike.
