Avatar was shot in 3D and the extended cut of that never saw a 3D BD release, so I wouldn't count on it. Has there ever been an extended cut which got a 3D Blu-ray release ?

The trailers look good for 3D, though I'll say about medium 3D even if it was filmed in 3D. Wish they went for strong 3D, but will hold my opinion till I see the whole movie. ![]() |

Saw this today in Real D 3D and the 3D was toned way down and very inconsistent from one scene to another. Taking my glasses off during many dialogue scenes showed an almost 2D picture with very little separation of images. Action scenes fared better though with more depth. For a 3D comparison I'd say its on par with Amazing Spider Man 1 - and possibly somewhat better.
The movie itself was top notch though and shots were almost always framed with 3D in mind with objects in the foreground. Since it was shot with this in mind it made the most of what 3D it had, if that makes sense 3D: 6.5/10 Movie: 9/10 |

I was going to see this last night with the wife, and grandaughter but balked at the 17.50 per ticket price. That was sticker shock. I know of another theater where I could see it for 8.00 but it's much further away. By the way, the price is for the 2D version.

I'm seeing it tomorrow, but I'm surprised to hear the 3D getting a meh reaction. I thought Singer shot the scenes with either 3D in mind or 3D cameras?
My friend said there was a few real big standout 3D moments though. I'll get it in 3D anyway. |

"The 3D for x-men was very good, pop outs and depth. I also liked the movie better than "Godzilla" and "Spiderman". Just so you know I'm not a "X men" fan but I do like 3D movies.

It does have a few standout moments but ranks in the middle of the pack of the hundred or more 3D blu's I've seen in the last few years. I will still buy the 3D blu as the movie itself was absolutely fantastic and the moderate 3D still added to the experience Last edited by gamermwm; 05-25-2014 at 06:50 PM. |

Want to see this in 3D. If nothing else I think I will probably enjoy the movie over-all. Am curious to experience how the native-3D camera work adds to the naturalistic look of people and places, being already aware of how the majority of live-action 2D conversions turn out.

This was a case of the 3D looking better than it did in the trailer if that's possible.
Great 3D in XMen Days of Future Past today (at Cinemark regular 3D theater, not XD) with a nice range of high medium 3D layers, with a lot of strong 3D shots and a few intentional mild 3D shots for distance scenery, this being filmed in 3D. The layering was very plentiful and I tested the film by flipping up my glasses. For the middle layer, usually the character's face while the glasses were off; yes, the characters were converged so they had little double image separation because of that, but the backgrounds had a lot more double image separation signifying stronger 3D, which is how it looked when I dropped the glasses back on. Very happy with the quality of the 3D here. Could it have been stronger, yes, but they did a great job even so with the shot composition and 3D layering. Movie was interesting and a big emphasis on story over action, relating to time travel and how complicated that can get; though I was able to follow it without a problem. Did anyone stay till the end credits rolled offscreen? I didn't stay for it, but imagine there was a teaser for another film? Magneto was awesome as always as a character in this one. Mystique also, had a major role. Good stuff. Previews: Edge of Tomorrow 3D: Strong 3D. Looks great. Transformers Age of Extinction 3D: High Medium to strong 3D. Looks great. New Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2 trailer: Medium to high medium 3D. Looks very good. 3D: X-Men Days of Future Past 3D: This will look awesome on a 3DTV. Mostly high medium 3D layering, some great particle pop outs, and a good number of strong 3D shots in this film. Very much worth the 3D price! |

I really enjoyed the 3D presentation in X-Men--one of the few quality action blockbusters with nice-looking native 3D.
They did a great job with depth and roundness. Parallax is mostly in a medium, safe range but still nice. There's a little inconsistency with some cardboard cutouts here and there, but the majority of the shots looks super. Composition was beautiful too. You could freeze-frame at any moment and take a really interesting image. Easily the best-looking X-Men movie in this regard. In terms of 3D story-telling, it was good but not extraordinary. There's a lot close-ups where round 3D amplifies the intensity/emotion in the actors' faces. Several sets are intricately designed in ways that a conversion couldn't do justice to. [Show spoiler] There's also some fantastic fight choreography with mutants using their powers in 3D space. My favorite was a certain slo-mo scene with [Show spoiler] No special extreme pop-outs, other than weather and particle effects, weaved into the story for dramatic effect. They mainly use cutting, rather than z-depth, to portray motion, but didn't get too carried away with shaky cam or horizontal strobing.Overall, loved the story and the visual experience. It doesn't quite meet the bar set by 3D Oscar winners, but still great fun. Story - 4.5/5 3D - 4/5 |
