I cannot believe the amount of TV shows that have now been cancelled.
I started watching The Tommorrow People a few weeks ago, I also started Almost Human and Believe which i really enjoyed. I had Star Crossed and Intelligence both recorded yet to start. I gave up on Revolution near the end of S1 but still thought it was doing well. Is there much point having a TV anymore!? If they keep cancelling everything no one will want to start a new show in fear that it will get the axe. Which in turn means ratings aren't as high and so they cancel them. Either folk need to keep giving new shows a shot or networks have to hold on to a show longer in hope that ratings will increase. The latter won't ever happen though due to money. |

This happens every year. There's always several new shows that don't get picked up for another season. It doesn't seem like there's a larger amount of new shows being cancelled in 2014 versus previous years to me. Perhaps it's just that several you were watching/planning to watch didn't get renewed, so it feels more exaggerated to you.

I know I am part of the problem but I don't even bother watching certain shows that I am sure I will like because I assume they will get canceled anyways. Warehouse 13 and Haven have both become two of my all time favorite shows but I didn't even start either one until the fourth season after they announced a fifth and final season for both. Plus the ones that do end up getting a full run usually end up having a shitty series finale also. I still get angry when I think that I watched all 9 seasons of The X-Files.

I have just local channels on my cable, as an excuse to get a cheaper package on the Internet (yep, the iron boot of Baron Comcast), and when I turned it on last night to flip channels, I realized I hadn't watched my local cable channels in THREE MONTHS. At all. Last time was the Oscars, I think...I know I'd already given up on Agents of SHIELD.
So, um, no. At least, if you mean "A point besides Blu-ray, Instant Netflix and Playstation." You....haven't Cut the Cord(tm) yet? (I'd like to, but we live in a mountain valley, where you can't get the air channels. And in HD, where you don't have to pay an extra $99/mo. for them.) |

I think it's part of the cyclical cycle - similar to the ups and downs on the TV on DVD/Blu-ray market.
I know that personally, I rarely get excited about new shows any more because so few of them make it to enduring series. So I watch less and wait for them to get a few years under their belt, and then catch up. I think a lot of folks do that, so that just helps erode ratings, which, of course...then leads to shows getting cancelled sooner. It's like TV on DVD/Blu because of the same "you burned me too many times" thing, where folks stopped buying the first season or two unless it was sure the rest are coming - which leads to lower initial sales, which - then - leads to later seasons coming out. Thankfully, on Blu, they seem to be going the "whole series" route - they seemed to have learned how to navigate around that issue. |
