So CC website is having a 10% online coupon special & I was all ready to pull the trigger on the Sony SSF7000 (fronts), SSF5000 (sides), SSCN5000 (center), SAW3000 (sub)
But then noticed that the POLK R50, wave 30 sides, CS1 & sub, which retails for nearly double the above Sony prices, can be had online for a huge discount & basically what I would be paying for the Sony pieces above at discounted retail prices. 2 questions: 1. Is this Polk line of speakers hands down better and a no brainer for the discounts and better quality/performer than the Sony set?? 2. For my sides surround speakers, would I be better going with a smaller tower pair to compliment my front tower pair, for instance the SSF5000 & SSF7000 or do you guys like the smaller book shelf types for sides?? subwoofer wise, you might even consider:
JBL Venue Series SUB12 12-Inch 500-Watt Subwoofer Acoustech H-100 Cinema Series 500-Watt Front-Firing Subwoofer |

Nice - pleasure as always crack. I am just a couple more mouse clicks away. I am still leaning towards the Sony 820. I actually saw one at circuit city and it is the goods. According to the logos on the unit and what it states on the box, it is the first truly compatible BR disc receiver from them in this price range; regardless of the audio format. As far as the Onkyo's go, the only one that will physically fit in my cabinet case is the 605.

Well i have to say i am very impressed with my Sony speakers! I have SCN5000 center and the ssf-6000 fronts and they blow me away. My neighbor has polk speakers and he was blown away with the quality as well, he said if he had to get speakers again he would take a seriously hard look at the sony's! The quality of their products have improved dramatically! I got the ssf-6000's for $114.95 for the pair!! what a freakin deal! You need to hear the sony's before you make a decision!

thats where i got my speakers from. The only reason i did not go with sony for my surrounds is because i had heard amazing things about the insignia's at best buy and i have not been disappointed! they sound amazing for the price i paid ($79.99) the bookshelves i was looking at from sony were the 3000 series but i could not hear any difference between those and the Insignia speakers! The insiginia's were $30 cheaper as well. |

I've had my eye on those Sony speakers also, especially the 7000s. It seems that CC has been out of them for some time now and I'm wondering if they are ever going to get more in. 10% off and free shipping on them is hard to beat right now. Most places I've seen are asking more for them and charging shipping on top of the price.

I have pretty much the setup you were looking at originally, and am very pleased... I have the 6000s for the front towers, and four of the bookshelves for all of my rears. I haven't heard the Polk's, so crackin I'm sure has a better idea on those. I went through B & H online for all my speakers, they shipped them real quick and I saved a lot over any other site I could find (aside from a few on e-bay but this seemed safer to me)
I also have the same center and sub you were looking at hooked up to the DA-4300ES. Extremely pleased with the quality |

Bruce, Brett, Silo -- after hours of research and due diligence, I am going with Polks. You can not beat the 5 year warranty along with the consistent feedback I am getting. Not to mention, as Brett points out, that price being for each on the Sony is terrible then. Thanks for looking out!!
I think a good strategy for me personally is just getting some quality fronts and a nice big center for now. I will worry about the surrounds later. Here is another point if any of you guys have opinions on. What do you think of "real wood" vs. the fiber press board or whatever most speakers come in. I priced a real wood set of Polks and you are basically talking about $650ish for two fronts and a center. I need to make a decision like yesterday already ![]() |

*After doing some more research on the Sony speakers, I have found that almost all dealers are selling them as pairs. Sony speakers are on a completely different level compaired to most speakers(Polks, Klipsch, etc.) Sony speakers are good for the price (sold as pairs). There is no way Sony could compete with other speakers if they sold them individually. If CC is selling them individually, then they are doing so out of ignorance or greed. Last edited by Silo5; 06-03-2008 at 03:24 AM. Reason: more research on these Sony speakers |

Not sure on the real wood thing, I've never really heard any real arguments for either side, so hopefully someone can help you there. I'm sure that pretty serious audiophile type differences, very little you'd notice in a more basic home theater. but again, not totally sure on that ![]() |
