United Kingdom Any chance of Mann's Thief in the UK?

I am huge Michael Mann fan, so it pains me that thief is only available in the US through Criterion. Is there any chance of the UK getting a release of this film?

There is a French version in the works, a Digibook from Wild Side.

My guess is that Second Sight, Arrow or Eureka will release this one day. More likely the other two but you never know. I would like to see The Insider released too but that's not really early Mann.

I'm dying to get this too. Michael Mann's probably my favourite director and given how great his cinematography is I actually bothered to upgrade his films to Blu-ray, but I'm missing this, The Insider and Ali because they haven't come out in the UK yet. Thief might even be my favourite by him too.

It's been found in the latest wave of postcards they include in their releases:

No specs/details yet, but this is confirmation that its on the way.

Why don't you invest in a multi-region player? I did, best investment I ever made.

If it's not mastered in 4K then it's unlikely to be better than Criterion's..

I don't think they'd use a different master

i had the criterion blu a while ago (sold it , not much of a mann fan) , and it does look "really good" , but i woulnd give it the 5/5 rating the bluray got in the review over here.. it has its "weak" moments and its "average" moments as well during the movie.

but some mann fans probably kindly ignore such stuff xD
ive no idea how the previous DVDs looked. maybe it got such a good rating because of that.

the bonus features and the soundtrack is what made the criterion release stand out so much.

cheers, mate!

btw I also own the Criterion BD and it looks amazing but I'd prefer a region B disc as I dunno how long my region free player will live

I'd give the criterion disc a 4.9 out of 5 for PQ. It looks amazing throughout.

the Teal looked acutally pretty good. gave the movie a Neo-Noir look.
i dont think the DVD looked right from the start... many DVDs suffer from a wrong color tone.
