Default Gremlins 30th anniversary

It's been 30 years since Gremlins became one of the most beloved horror, fantasy and comedy films around and was one of the biggest hits of 1984 and most original films of the 80s.

I remembered seeing the 85 re-issue when i was 4 years old 3 times and i dug the movie as i even had a few Gremlins stuff and ate the cereal. The effects are quite unique by Chris Walas as he made the cutest monster on film and the not so cutest creatures of the 80s.

This movie spawned a sequel and some imitators like Munchies, Evil Toons, Leprechaun, Troll, Hobgoblins etc. although Critters 1 & 2 were exceptional movies as was Cat's Eye.

Phoebe Cates was one of my boyhood crushes and she was cute in the film no doubt.

This movie is still popular today with new merchandise and stuff, i hope they do a 30th anniversary restored BD this holiday since it is a holiday movie sometimes for Halloween and Christmas.

You're 4 days too early but I, too, have very fond memories of seeing this in theaters.

Damn this movie is 30 years old?! and it still holds up to this day and I love this movie. Still haven't watched the second one yet. I last heard that the remake was still on and Spielberg was going to direct it again.

I dig Gremlins 2 since i saw it 4 times in theaters as a kid and loved the video game.

Do you like any of the Gremlins-esque movies too like Critters 1 and 2, Troll, Cat's Eye, Puppet Master, Dolls etc.? and who agrees Hobgoblins was the worst one of the bunch?

From what I've heard everybody hates on the sequel. They say it's not as good as the first movie.

I like the sequel, you would probably enjoy it. Hard to believe Gremlins is 30 years old.

I loved both movies. Gremlins 2 was awesome and had much more action and effects than the original. The original is a classic and very well done as well.

You can't beat the mom vs. the gremlins in the kitchen scene!!

But wait until you see the spider-gremlin scene in the sequel!!

I like the sequel better than the original. Definitely more 'slapstick' than the original, and over the top in very many ways.

I recall reading it was intentionally though, the director was strong-armed into the sequel or something, so he demanded 100% total control and deliberately did what he could to kill the franchise so there wouldn't be a third.

Still, I enjoy Gremlins 2 FAR more than the first, and I thought the first was very very good.

They both compliment one another. One is an atmospheric cartoon-esque horror film, while the sequel is a full-blown cartoon, with very little scares.

Trust me, they're both awesome.

Some neighborhood friends and I went to see Gremlins in 1984 during its first theatrical run. I have not seen the movie since then, but that one and only viewing is etched in my memory to the point where I can still recall everything.

I guess that it's about time I give this movie another go, because it would bring back some great childhood memories.

"Again"? He didn't direct it the first time, Joe Dante did.

Christ, Spielberg has about 17 movies lined up these days, does he REALLY need to regurgitate a well-loved, brilliantly made film like Gremlins? You would think he would have set everything aside and produced and directed Napoleon himself.

The first one is a classic for me. The sequel, not so much...at all. I'm one of those that just isn't a big fan of the sequel.
