firmware for DESCENT

I hope you blu-ray vets out there can shed some light for me I plan to buy the Sony BDP-S1 and play my DESENT blu-ray disc. The problum is I have to add FIRMWARE up grade to the player to play this disc. I don't know why this stuff isn,t ready to go out of the box. How do I get firmware how do I install it? Do I burn it from Sonys website or order them to send me a disc what do I do Many thanks Robin L.

You've pretty much answered your own question there.

I would say your best bet is to download it from Sony's website and burn the disc image yourself. Make sure that you burn it as an image (not as a file!) so that the player can boot from it and run the update.

Once you get that done, you should be able to play The Descent. I have the same player and that movie. I am very happy with both.

I had to do that for my samsung bd player as well,its not so bad at least its readily available for download.

No, on a DVD..

Good point. That's right. It MUST be on DVD media (+R, -R, +RW, -RW).
Personally I used a DVD+RW and it worked perfectly. The write-once media is kind of expensive to make some one-use thing like this.
