Thumbs up The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

Looks like Bethesda did a good job with the PS3 version.

I thought this was suppose to be 1080p on the PS3 version. When I bought it, I found out it was 720p.

I was excited about the extras I was suppose to see (from early reviews). The 720p stamp took the excitement right out of me. Why did they go back to 720p for this game?

Just finished watching the review. It just made me want to play the game again.

I'm still disappointed that it's not 1080p, but I guess the title has been refined to where it is noticeably better than the 360 version. That will do.

Well, it's still a port, so I'm just glad that it came out good. I compared my bro's PS3 version to my 360 version, and you can see that the PS3 version is definitely sharper - especially things drawn in the distance. It is also a lot brighter - you can actually see without having a torch out indoors. The framerate is about the same on both platforms, but the stuttering issue that plagues the 360 version is less noticeable on the PS3, probably since the game is installed on the hard drive. Loading times are also better on the PS3. And, I have yet to see the game freeze on the PS3, while the 360 version tends to do that often. So while 1080p didn't make it into the game, I think they did a commendable job. Especially when you consider that the original game was designed on DirectX for PC and 360... I assume it's running on a variant of opengl on PS3... though I could be wrong about that. Still, a remarkable effort.

Anyone buying this on Friday 27th? It's not quite my thing but I can understand some of the excitement around it.

Me? I'll be in ninja-mode on Friday.

Oh yes!

My mate lent me his xbox360 last year for a week when he went on holiday. I thought 'I'll pop Oblivion in and have a half hour on it'. Four hours later and I was completely hooked!

I'll be straight in the shops on Friday morning to grab my copy.

It's a fantastic game, and it's not a genre I was into before.

Default It's all falling to pieces already.

Work? Pah!

Friends? Who needs them?

Family? They'll be fine.

Accounts? Will never have to buy anything again.

Food? I've got my potions.

Sunshine? The curtains will stop that.

Phone calls? Switched it off.

Personal Hygiene? Nobody else here anyway.

Yes, I bought it yesterday at 5:30pm. By 1:00am this morning I'd played for six hours non-stop. I am now a slave.

Much better on the PS3 than the 360.

As I am playing Oblivion for several days in total, could you pls provide some screenshots of the PS3 Version. I am playing Oblivion on PC @1900x1200 so that should be a true competition not that low res xbox...

This should be what you're looking for.

I'll say now that the graphics are stunning, particularly the water that surrounds Imperial City, simply perfect.

I was at it 10 hours straight my first night. Decided to take a quick peek when I got home from work at 6pm on a Friday and since I didn't have to go to work the next day, I didn't budge from the chair until 4am the next morning, and had to force myself to turn it off even then. Kinda scary how addictive this thing is. I swear, anyone looking for a diet that works, should get one. This game is awesome. I'm getting tired of being a vampire though.

Me and my mate played this game for thirteen hours on Sunday. I can hardly sleep for dreams of killing trolls with a bow and arrow.

The sick thing is how different the game is for everyone who plays it. For instance, someone above said they are very tired of being turned into a vampire... I've played at least a hundred hours and never had it happen. Then again, I'm sure my mage has other weaknesses that his character does not. With the nearly infinite potential combinations of races, classes, etc. the possibilities are endless.

It is a real lifestealer.
