I'll wait for them to fix the color timing on The King & I.

What's wrong with it, CV?

(I haven't seen it for myself, so I'm asking as an interested pre-buyer.)

Here's a comparison. Not only did the teal it up, whites are now blue and the whole image has a dark dreary veil over it (due to the heavy blue filter, most likely).

Look at the Captain's white suit, and the white lace collars and gloves that are now turquoise.

Ahh, thanks for the info, and ... bummer.

I'm a burgeoning tealophobe, so this is hugely disappointing. I'll join you in the waiting room, if I may.

(By the way, the link doesn't work for me. But I hear what you're saying. It sounds like what they did to Cleopatra.)

I'll try again-

That one works, sorry. And yeah, it probably looks different in motion - it's not so much the teal that bothers me, as is the general lifelessness/darkness of the image. But that's what blue filters do.

Yep that one works, thanks. The difference is kinda shocking, isn't it?

And I agree with you about the teal overall, so yeah, my objection isn't due to some purist conception of the palette, but the effect it has on the visual tone. Though I particularly dislike what it does to shadows, skies and skin tones — to my eye they look far from natural. And it's a shame, when you have such colour-rich source material.

I can't get why they do it. It doesn't improve the image, so why? I have a theory that it helps control bloom and bleed, particular at the warmer end of the spectrum, but I've never read anything to confirm that. Or, indeed, any other explanation.
