Which studio is releasing this? The DVD was Universal I think!

Doesn't seem to be any studio info on the preorder.

Thanks for posting.

Warner has distribution rights for both of these titles at the moment, let's hope they do something with them.

I finished reading Stephen King's new novel, Mr. Mercedes, last night, so this is a great Blu-ray update to wake up to this morning.

Here's my short review that I posted for my friends on Facebook...

Stephen King's new novel, Mr. Mercedes, is a departure from the author's supernatural horror stories, and it focuses instead on the real monsters that walk among us. In a city besieged by recession in 2009, a killer in a stolen Mercedes plows through a crowd of people at a job fair, leaving several victims dead and wounded. Months later, a retired police detective who is haunted by the unsolved case receives a letter from "Mr. Mercedes", and becomes embroiled in a cat-and-mouse game with the killer. The title character is one of the writer's scariest creations in recent memory, especially because he conjures comparisons to the Boston Marathon bombers and to several present-day perpetrators of random violence. Mr. Mercedes is a horrific, but fun homage to hard-boiled detective fiction, and one can sense Stephen King tipping a fedora to authors like James M. Cain (to whom the novel is dedicated), Raymond Chandler, and Dashiell Hammett.

Highly recommended!

The book is a lot of fun. It seems particularly well-suited to a screen adaptation, even by the standards of King's most screen-worthy books in the past.

Thanks. I'm a fan of some of King's non-horror/supernatural/sci-fi writing, so I will have to read this ASAP.

I'm not a huge fan of this particular King adaptation, though I will likely purchase it down the line, if Universal manages to not botch the transfer entirely. (Which, of course, there is no guarantee of.)

I hope Universal doesn't put out the fire by scrubbing it away.

I seem to recall Shout! Factory saying they weren't releasing any more Universal transfers due to the negative feedback their Cat People and Darkman releases received, which should tell you all you need to know about the state of the transfers for this and People Under the Stairs. I won't even think of buying either of them until I've read some reviews.

Was there a direct quote on the second half of that statement? It's not an unreasonable assumption, but I don't remember reading anything specific from Scream themselves. Most of their Universal releases were criticized to varying degrees for the transfers, so why would those two in particular be the tipping point?

I'm not aware of a direct quote referencing those two, but it all seemed to come to a head after those two were released.

Like most Universal catalog titles it will be shocking if this isn't just a DNR heavy master they've been sitting on for years.
