Default Ratchet and Clank

Latest infos:

May 13th 2015: The new Reboot is delayed to Spring 2016 (alongside the movie)
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/...29-2016-in-us/

Original post:
Well, apparently we had it wrong.

It will not be a remake, but a complete reboot according to Insomniac.

http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/2...e-reimagining/

Quote:
Fans of the Ratchet and Clank series will be happy to hear that Insomniac Games is still full steam ahead developing a new title for the franchise, exclusively on Playstation 4. Maybe it's just me, but the extra funding exclusive titles get usually lead to a more unique, robust gaming experience. Here's to hoping the new Ratchet and Clank game follows that philosophy.

Playstation Experience happened over the weekend, and many gamers were left wondering, "Where is the new Ratchet and Clank?" There are still a lot of misconceptions about the game, and while Insomniac Games may not have had any time on the material stage, they've taken to Twitter's virtual one to offer some tidbits of information regarding the upcoming title.

One fan tweeted at the developer, asking Insomniac if they could make a new Ratchet and Clank - not a remake - for the Playstation 4. Insomniac quickly informed the fan that the new Ratchet and Clank is a complete reimagining:

"It's a complete re-imagining. NOT a remake."

Another person asked why Insomniac wasn't going to release the game in Q1 of 2015. Apparently, the user thought that Insomniac had made a statement declaring that the game would be out in early 2015. Here's what they had to say:

"2015. We never said Q1"

While I had grown comfortable with my furry friend and his metallic companion, it'll be interesting to see where a 'complete reimagining' takes us. It seems like Insomniac needed to change up the Ratchet and Clank formula anyway, so this can only mean good things for the series.
PS: There is already a thread for the remake, which I think is still valid, as I could totally see Sony giving another (smaller and lesser profile) studio the task of doing a HD port/ remake of some PS3 R&C titles.

PPS: Wonder if Insomniac didn't screw the pooch on a big reveal Sony would have planned for GDC/ E3 for this ??

Fall lineup: UC4, New R&C title, ??
[Show spoiler]Gran Turismo 7

I think most people missed it. I heard about the movie, but I think he said it so fast or in a way that was hard to grasp at first. But yes, it will be awesome!

It still makes no sense to me. Why remake the first game? It just sounds like a terrible marketing decision for the movie. We already have the HD upscale; a brand new game would have brought much more excitement for it.

Was hoping for more platforming goodness news... A new Ratchet would have been nice, and sad there was no new Rayman sequel!

Since I don't think I played the original Ratchet, at least that gives me a little something to look forward to!

PS3 players have the HD upscale, not PS4 players.

The title is misleading. It's the movie trailer.

The title is not misleading as this is the thread for the game. The movie trailer is indicated as such and was included in the OP because there is no news about the actual game.

Completely missed your comment. You're correct, but it would be a much simpler task to port the HD collection that exists than to rebuild the entire first game.

True, but I think most PS4 gamers had PS3s. I can also see, though, in Sony's obvious attempt at using PS4 to grab market share from MS that a reinvention of a top notch brand is more likely to attract buyers than a sequel. Reinventing part one is a new IP for old Xboxers who are now or will be PSers. Anyway, I am much more interested in this than I am GTAV and TLoU on PS4.

I'd love for them to do that, but Sony seems to want to use the movie as a means to relaunch the series. Porting over the PS3/PS2 games would likely be detrimental to that.

It would be completely redundant to do that. Why port a port? This will sell more than a PS4 port of the PS3 remaster of the PS2 game.

It makes perfect sense and is being used as a good marketing decision. They need a game out in time for the movie to promote both and remaking the original probably takes less resources than a completely new title. Insomniac is busy as they have other stuff going on at the studio. This project likely doesn't require as much of the team as the last full release.

And while its a remake, they described it as a reimagining. It will pretty much be a new experience. I liken it to Tomb Raider Anniversary which had the same basic premise and story as the original, but had new gameplay elements, cutscenes and level designs, so that while it felt familiar, was a different game. Its not simply going to be the first game updated with modern graphics. I also expect elements of the movie to make its way into this so the story will likely be expanded. I think its great. I just played the original via the HD collection and am pumped for this

It's redundant to port in the first place, and A remake in the PS3 generation would have sold more than the HD collection. On the other hand, it did not need to be remade. The R&C ports were as good or better than plenty of games that were made in the PS3 generation.

This is mostly true. The profit margin for this should be higher than for a new IP for a lot of reasons. There is a risk of alienating some fans, but that's likely of low impact.

well nothing "needs" to be remade. IA a remake would have sold better in the PS3 generation but Sony's thing was about doing those HD remasters which didnt cost much to port and they could make a relatively quick return. The series likely wasnt relevant enough at that point to put resources into remaking the first. After recieiving so many PS3 entries at that point, it probably would have been exhausting to release one, but theres been enough time thats passed and theres a new generation of gamers to introduce this series to. And of course again, theres the movie thats coming out to give the character a push, so the series will once again be relevant, hence why this game exists

All of it. There's no way this will be anything more than the first game with a hefty visual upgrade. Would I like to be wrong? Hell yes since it's one of my favorite franchises.

They specifically said it will be a "reimagining of the original game", not an HD port of it. It will have an updated original story in line with the new movie's plot, as well as updated gameplay in addition to the new visuals as well.

Has this been quoted somewhere or is this just what you imagine a "re-imagining" to be?

So it’s with great pride I get to announce that Insomniac will continue our involvement with the Ratchet & Clank movie while developing a game that re-imagines the original Ratchet & Clank for PS4. As was mentioned during Sony’s press conference , the game will share the film’s vision of Ratchet’s origin story, and features updated gameplay along with completely new visuals that rival the best PS4 games on the market.
