It is difficult for me to imagine blu-ray sitting in a Walmart bargain bin for 5 bucks. But if you get your money worth and use out of it then it isn't such a loss.

Unfortunately the only way to get decent money for DVDs is to sell them in bulk.

Took them to trade in, but most were only worth 25 cents! They wouldn't even take Terminator 3 so I left it on a trashcan outside the store. Took me trading in 19 DVD's for 1 Blu-Ray.

I'd rather give them away to friends or family members then just throw them out.

Ill use them to build a secret underground post apoclyaliptic lair, in which to hide , this of course is in direct reaction to what tron3 said on another thread.

I give all my old SD-DVDs (which are all still in like-new condition) to my local library and take the current retail value as a tax deduction. It's a win-win for my community and me (and sure as hell beats the 25 cents they'd give me for them at the used retail stores).

That's a good idea. I need to look into that. What value did they end up giving you? Was it like $5 per movie or the actual retail price per movie?

You know I keep debating whether or not to sell my dvd copies of blurays I've bought, but I think I'm just going to keep them..
Many of my friends don't have bluray yet, and if they want to borrow something, at least I can let them borrow the sd version.
I have sort of an attachment to all my movies too, don't think I can just let them go...

I claim $5 per SD-DVD figuring that all the titles I've donated have hit the $5 Walmart bin at some point. My library just gives me a form stating that I made a donation and I fill in the value amount (kind of like donating at Goodwill). Just be carefull to keep documentation of what you donated...you need to be prepared if you ever get audited by the IRS.

Whenever I have parties at my house, I give them away as prizes!
What better way to reward a friend than with their choice of a movie, and get rid of a double-dip title I have on Blu-ray?

I've been getting $4 a piece for them from co-workers.

I sold a ton of them last weekend at a rummage sale. $4 each -or- 6 for $20

here's what you do. buy a dvd burner for $40 and just burn all the dvd's you like that aren't on blu-ray yet, and then just buy the ones you want on blu. that's what i do. problem solved

I'm keeping mine so we can watch them on trips as I'm not lugging my PS3 around with me to watch Blu-Rays.

Yea i have about little over 300 dvds. with the ps3 upconverting them, i dont see a sense in replacing most of them. only certain ones mainly for the sound factor, such as LOTR, Matrix, big blockbusters that are worth it...

I am like this too, I don't trust people to take care of my things; never have. It took a lot of persuading for me to let my brother borrow Mario Kart Wii for his son to play. I've let people borrow CDs in the past only to have them returned with scratches all over the back. I take great care of my possessions.
