Default Size change in Blu-Ray movies

when they upgrade the disc size to 200GB will the movie data size increase, or will they stick with the 50GB discs for movies? any speculation?

My guess is that they won't use more than 50GB on the movie itself, unless for maybe a long ass movie like Gone With The Wind which is like 4 hrs. I don't see larger capacity BDs being used often, if at all, other than for consumer recordable purposes. I mean, do we really need the Back To The Future trilogy, plus tons of extras on 1 disc?

The movie specification is written in stone AFAIK. 50GB dual lay discs. Anything more is not Blu-ray Video compliant.

Kind of like DVDs. If you put a brand new DVD into a 10 year old DVD player, that 10 year old player should still be able to play it back.

Crap. It would've been nice to find the complete LOTR trilogy in HD on one disc...

I would assume the problem with releasing higher capacity discs in the future, would be that they wouldn't play on the earlier models.

Mmm.. They said something about upgradable firmware... It's done now for PC drives, so they can read higher speed discs and there is a difference in dye so... Since it's here only a matter of adjusting the height of the focus of the laser because models now can already read double layered BDs... Ah well, I don't know for sure. *-*
