Default Goldfinger 50th Anniversary Steelbook Sept 2014

20th Century Fox will be treating Bond fans in the UK/US to a special Steelbook edition of 'Goldfinger' on Blu-Ray to celebrate the classic film's 50th anniversary later this year.

First released in 2009, this repackaging of the 'Goldfinger' Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray will hit UK store shelves for £24.99 on 22nd September 2014.

The release is expected to carry over the same special features, which include: TV Broadcasts, Stop Look He’s Looking For Trouble – 007 It Spells Bond, Miss Honey & Miss Galore, Miss Honey & Miss Galore Have James Bond Back For More, Original Radio Interviews with Sean Connery and Other Radio Spots, plus the Original Theatrical Trailer. Commentary tracks include director Guy Hamilton, and a second by members of the cast and crew.

That's one awesome looking steelbook. I'm not one to usually get a movie for just the packaging but this might be hard to pass up!

I'm not a steelbook collector but I am a Bond nut, and that's looks very nice indeed. I might have to get it.

With all the Bond movies you could release several anniversary editions in basically any given year.

Years ending in 1/6:
Diamonds Are Forever
For Your Eyes Only
Casino Royale

Years ending in 2/7:
Dr. No
The Spy Who Loved Me
The Living Daylights
Tomorrow Never Dies
Die Another Day
Skyfall (don't see them releasing a 5th anniversary edition though)

Years ending in 3/8:
From Russia with Love
Live and Let Die
Octopussy
Quantum of Solace

Years ending in 4/9:
Goldfinger
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Man with the Golden Gun
Moonraker
License to Kill
The World is Not Enough

Years ending in 5/0:
Thunderball
A View to a Kill
Goldeneye

I don't see them rushing the other 5 anniversary editions out this year but if this is successful I could see them making their way back to them after doing the 2018 anniversary editions. Just another way to reconfigure these releases and in a 23-film series you can't help but see anything like this as a way to test the waters for the other 22.

Not much of a collector of steelbooks, but if they did this with every Bond movie, I would very seriously consider dropping my anniversary Blu-ray set for individual releases!

I've always disliked that poster image. That dead looking gold woman just looks so bad.

Depends on whether they took the photo before OR after she died. (Not to mention her alleged cause of death, "skin asphyxiation", has now been proven false; when they paid homage to this scene with Fields' death in QoS, the oil was also found in her lungs.)

MI6-HQ, however, now only says the UK. Though it's normal for the U.S. & UK to get the same Bond releases, and SteelBooks are making a small comeback here, it wouldn't be surprising if this was UK-only. Proof or it won't happen...

Have all the features from the mega Laserdisc from MGM made it to the blurays?

When the Bond films finally hit Blu-ray the first time, individual titles were available in steelbooks through exclusive retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. They were actually the first steelbooks I ever bought and I only collected the titles I enjoyed. Was looking to finish out my set when the rest of the titles were halted for some lawsuit thing, I think between MGM and Sony. When it was finally resolved, I was hoping they'd continue releasing titles on steelbook, but only GoldenEye got one and that was exclusive to Play.com. I only had OHMSS and TND left to get. I was so bummed. Still haven't added them to my collection, waiting and waiting to see if they'll end up released in steelbooks down the road.

Here's a blog I did of my Bonds on Blu, offering more details about it.

I remember that. I had picked up all the available Bond steelbooks when they were released, but when the rest of the titles were delayed; and they didn't continue the steelbooks, I ended up selling them off to get the full set.

That steelbook is great, but i don't like having just one steelbook of a series of films.
if they did all the Bond films (well, up to Timothy Dalton anyway, I'm not interested in the rest), I would buy them.

This is the first time that I've ever been tempted to buy a steelbook. I normally cannot stomach this format, but that's some sweet-looking cover art for one of my favorite films.

I've got the individual Blu-rays of all of the 50th Anniversary James Bond movies, though, and I'm immensely happy with them. The discs themselves are stellar, and I like the uniform alignment of the spines.
