BD movie reviews. Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk, or a snobbish film critic, but some of the BD movie reviews here just blow me away.

5/5 for 'Cloverfield', 'Signs', and 'Rambo'? While films such as 'The Departed', 'Juno' and 'The Aviator' score 3.5/5? 4/5 for the original 'Superman', 'The Sand Pebbles' and 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'? And a lowly 2.5 for 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang'?

Look, I know art is subjective and all that - but a handheld video re-make of Godzilla is ranked the same as 'Blade Runner'?

I think I'll stick to reading the video/audio aspects of the reviews from now on.

I watched Cloverfield last night, and I'd have to agree with the reviewer. It was an excellent transfer and even though it was shot to look like a handheld, what I saw on the screen was very effective.

I like Cloverfield a lot and am a fan of signs, but I wouldn't rate those as 5/5. I haven't seen Rambo, so I will refrain from commenting on that title. As for your reference to the other three, I will agree that Juno is a superior film either of those two. However, Aviator and The Departed are not.

Scorsese's film's have been on the decline since Goodfellas and these two are good movies which people elevate to heights they don't deserve because they think Martin is the King Midas of filmdom.

yeah, too many people dont like Cloverfield because the way it was filmed, and apparently that makes it a bad movie?! It was a good movie because it brought forth something different and a new concept and....it worked! very good, might i add. Every movie is filmed different. if all movies were filmed the same way it would not be an art, it would just be a process.

I think alot of the review aspect, beings this is a blu-ray site, should go into the transfer. Is it worth upgrading? What did the reviewer think? Its easy to criticize, but its their opinion

I appreciate the "movie" part of the review, but it's honestly the last thing I look at. I go straight to the video and audio reviews, then glance at extras.

Everyone has a different opinion. This keeps coming up. If you don't agree with the review, don't worry about it. Use it as a gauge of if the movie sounds interesting to you or if the reviewer's opinions are consistently close to or much different than your own.

I'm not sure of the point of *****ing about people's opinions. You're not going to change them and they aren't wrong (and neither are yours).

Clearly we're not all going to all share the same opinion. If you really understand the definition of subjectivity then you'd understand that the reviews are written by a team of 7 different reviewers and that all of our tastes are very different.

One man's Godfather is another man's Gigli, or something to that effect...

What we have here, on forum.blu-ray.com, are a bunch of reasonably tech saavy techno-geeks; aka young (under 40) males. While i know for a fact that isn't all inclusive i propose that this genre makes up about 80%+ of this forum's active population. Young males generally like knuckle-dragging, titty-showing, tire-burning and generally mindless bash-fest movies. We all have our tastes for "finer" and "artsyer" and "(snob adjective here)er" movies, but i think most of us find our common ground with the classic shoot/hack/beat-em-up movies.

Again, assumption, but would explain a lot.

I have seen people get flamed to death for a differing opinion - had it done to me as well.

Reviews are to be taken with a grain of salt - that is, don't believe everything you read.
I got caught up in it once, wasted good money on a dog of a movie.

I know alot of people that got very dizzy just watching this movie.

its an ok movie for me, picture and sound is perfect though.

Blu-ray.com has the best reviews on the internet period.

i really enjoy the reviews here but i have to agree on rambo. i know it's a good action movie but a perfect 5 for Rambo is a bit much IMO
