As much as I would love to see NBK get remastered, I'm not holding my breath. WB is notorious for recycling old releases. Look at Goodfellas, they just keep releasing the same glorified DVD that was released in 2006 but, with a new "Bonus Feature." I'll stick with the original Natural Born Killers director's cut, until there's a reason to upgrade.

I guess it's just a lot cheaper to keep making new repackaging than to create a new transfer, or maybe at some point once they repackage these enough, they come out with the new transfer. With 4K around the corner, they have to start doing new transfers at some point.

Even though WB does lead the charge in cashgrabs, they do a nice job(IMO) with their re-releases(Exorcist, The Town, Argo etc). |

Won't be double dipping for the sake of one new extra. I didn't think the transfer for the directors cut was bad to begin with, the wobble is only really noticeable when there's titles on the screen. The theatrical transfer had that constant pink hue though, it could do with at least a color correct.

I heard about this on facebook fanpages and wanted to know more.
I don't care about special features or fancy packaging. Not to say "send to me folded in an origami envelope" (much as the internet loves to overreact). But the upselling of this re-packaging doesn't appeal to me. I already have the "Original Uncut Version"/"Director's Cut" on BD (Canada R1). This one: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Natural-Born-Killers-Blu-ray/27364/ Any word if this is remastered from 4K or anything special? Is it still going to be VC-1 and TrueHD? So far I'm seeing it's just a repackaging (unlike other "Diamond" re-releases I'm seeing: Chicago (2002) Diamond re-release actually has a lossless track that's not LPCM, and supposedly better video remaster than the previous release --- which is what I'm trying to decypher from the boring upselling of this product). |

I would think if it was a new transfer they would at least mention it. Therefore, I bet it's the same.
![]() MAYBE since it is at least a new disc, the feature will now be AVC codec and higher bitrates. I think warner has done that a few times and not really mentioned it in their press releases. "New encoding" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as newly remastered - so there is no point in really advertising it. Of course knowing Warner it surprises me they wouldn't try to sell a simple re-encoding as an all new remaster. Unless we get word of new transfers, it seems apparant that these "Diamond Luxe" editions are a joke. I'm prepared for the announcement of the 131th edition Goodfellas blu-ray rehash with the same lossy audio and dated transfer. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by AgentOrange; 06-24-2014 at 01:56 AM. |

Yeah, a new transfer or words indicating such are virtually always mentioned in these releases - so it's unlikely here. There's always the chance they re-encoded it to AVC such as Blazing Saddles, but you're only going to get a very minimal improvement in most cases with that.
Agreed about these releases give us a new transfer of Goodfellas already. |
