Warner Bros Natural Born Killers: The Director's Cut (1994)

Natural Born Killers Blu-ray

Quote:
Natural Born Killers 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray

This 1994 Venice Film Festival winner captures Oliver’s Stone’s hallucinogenic ride through the minds and exploits of two cold-blooded lovers (Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis), and is a powerful, gut-grabbing look at how violence and crime are sensationalized and glamorized in the media.

This anniversary edition will contain two versions of the film (Theatrical version and Director’s Cut), and a new high-def featurette Natural Born Killers: Method in the Madness, a rare glimpse provided by director Stone, editor Hank Corwin and technical advisor Dale Dye into the creative process that gave birth to this provocative, unapologetically violent piece of American cinema.

Special Features:

· Natural Born Killers: Method In The Madness NEW! High-def featurette with Oliver Stone, editor Hank Corwin and technical advisor Dale Dye

· Commentaries by Oliver Stone (Theatrical version and Director’s Cut)

· Introduction by Oliver Stone (2009)

· Natural Born Killers Evolution: How Would It All Go Down Now?

· Chaos Rising: The Storm Around Natural Born Killers

· "The Charlie Rose Show"

· Alternate Ending With Optional Commentary by Oliver Stone

· Alternate Ending

· Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by Oliver Stone.

· Trailer

Wonder if it'll be a remaster or just the first time we got both cuts of the movie in one set?

I really hope they remaster the Directors Cut. The telecine wobble is among the worst I've seen on a Blu-Ray.

It looks like it includes all the previous extras, plus one new doc. Unless this is a 3 disc set, they are at least redoing one of the previous discs to add the new doc.

One of my all-time favs that I never picked up on BD before. I still like NBK and True Romance more than any Tarantino directed film.

It sounds to me they are just using the existing transfers as anything new to that regard is always mentioned.

As much as I would love to see NBK get remastered, I'm not holding my breath. WB is notorious for recycling old releases. Look at Goodfellas, they just keep releasing the same glorified DVD that was released in 2006 but, with a new "Bonus Feature." I'll stick with the original Natural Born Killers director's cut, until there's a reason to upgrade.

I guess it's just a lot cheaper to keep making new repackaging than to create a new transfer, or maybe at some point once they repackage these enough, they come out with the new transfer. With 4K around the corner, they have to start doing new transfers at some point.

Agreed. I put it right up there with Heathers.

I assume Warner will be following the template of last year's Exorcist special edition. Package a new disc of special features with the current discs in deluxe packaging.

This is one instance where I hope it's just an amaray, as I can swap the disc out with my exisiting digibook's disc.
Even though WB does lead the charge in cashgrabs, they do a nice job(IMO) with their re-releases(Exorcist, The Town, Argo etc).

Won't be double dipping for the sake of one new extra. I didn't think the transfer for the directors cut was bad to begin with, the wobble is only really noticeable when there's titles on the screen. The theatrical transfer had that constant pink hue though, it could do with at least a color correct.

I already have the digibook and I've got the director's cut on DVD. Rewatching the theatrical version on Blu is fine with me, so I don't feel the need to upgrade the DC unless I stumble upon it for under five bucks.

I heard about this on facebook fanpages and wanted to know more.

I don't care about special features or fancy packaging.
Not to say "send to me folded in an origami envelope" (much as the internet loves to overreact).

But the upselling of this re-packaging doesn't appeal to me.

I already have the "Original Uncut Version"/"Director's Cut" on BD (Canada R1).
This one: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Natural-Born-Killers-Blu-ray/27364/

Any word if this is remastered from 4K or anything special?
Is it still going to be VC-1 and TrueHD?

So far I'm seeing it's just a repackaging (unlike other "Diamond" re-releases I'm seeing: Chicago (2002) Diamond re-release actually has a lossless track that's not LPCM, and supposedly better video remaster than the previous release --- which is what I'm trying to decypher from the boring upselling of this product).

I would think if it was a new transfer they would at least mention it. Therefore, I bet it's the same.

MAYBE since it is at least a new disc, the feature will now be AVC codec and higher bitrates. I think warner has done that a few times and not really mentioned it in their press releases. "New encoding" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as newly remastered - so there is no point in really advertising it. Of course knowing Warner it surprises me they wouldn't try to sell a simple re-encoding as an all new remaster.

Unless we get word of new transfers, it seems apparant that these "Diamond Luxe" editions are a joke. I'm prepared for the announcement of the 131th edition Goodfellas blu-ray rehash with the same lossy audio and dated transfer.

Yeah, a new transfer or words indicating such are virtually always mentioned in these releases - so it's unlikely here. There's always the chance they re-encoded it to AVC such as Blazing Saddles, but you're only going to get a very minimal improvement in most cases with that.

Agreed about these releases give us a new transfer of Goodfellas already.
