Default HDMI cables

Is there any difference in them? I was looking at them on Amazon... there's Monster cables that cost over $100... and there's a Monster PS3 that costs like $50. But... there's just plain ol' HDMI cables that costs about $20 or less that say they support up to 1080p.

I'm just trying to figure out what I will need. I'm about "this close" (imagine my thumb, and first finger pressed together) to sealing the deal on getting a PS3.

I need an HDMI cable and the remote.

To clarify... I don't know the technical differences in things like HDMI 1.3, and whatever else there is. My TV supports 1080p, and I'm going to have to run an optical cable to my receiver - as it does not support HDMI.

Blu Ray player number 2, for me.

There are countless threads here about this very topic. Do NOT waste your money on an Monster HDMI cable. Total waste of your money! Buy a 1.3 HDMI cable from monoprice.com Excellent quality and performance. Cheap and fast shipping.

If your paying $20, your still over paying!!! Go to monoprice.com. Excellent HDMI cables. You wont be dissapointed. In short, digital is digital. The HDMI cable passes the digital signal to the TV. The more expensive cables don't do anything special to the signal. There is no differences in a $100+ monster cable and a monoprice cable.

Here's a 6ft cable: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...t=1#largeimage

I also concur with the people telling you to go to monoprice. Their cables are good sturdy cables and are cheap as hell. I swear by them.

Red face what's the diff???

What's the difference between regular HDMI cables, and 1.3? How do I know if my BD player or tv or HD DUD player or cable box are compatible?? How do I know if my cables are 1.3 or an older version. I bought them between March 2008 and June 2008 at various places. Also, what is a Ferrite core for?

Edit: This also leads to another question I have in another thread? I have some issues with vertical lines of pixels flashing light blue / light green about every inch across the breadth of my LCD? Could this be due to older HDMI cables or is it more likely to be dying pixels?

Edit #2 - Partial Answer: http://www.audioholics.com/education...-hdmi-versions

No difference.. ALL HDMI cables support version 1 to 1.3.. It's the machinery that has to be 1.3 compliant.

they say the golden plated HDMI cables are better in the transport of the signal. Also the shorter the cable the better the quality because the loss will be minimal. Also make sure you get a cable that is 1.3 though it's not always mentioned in the packs

v1.3 only applies to the HDMI device. It means nothing other than marketing hype when listed on a cable. This has been discussed in numerous threads.

I am new to the world of home theater and was quickly out of my league of understanding. A friend referred me to "Blue Jeans Cable". High quality cables and very informative break down on all types of cables in easy to understand language. The following is an exerpt taken from their site. I thought it was very straight forward of them:

HDMI is a digital signal format, developed primarily as a platform for the implementation of HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) to prevent consumers from having complete access to the contents of high-definition digital recordings. As one might expect from a standard that was developed to serve the content provider industries, rather than the best interests of the consumer, HDMI is something of a mess. The signal is not robust over distance because it was designed to run balanced when it should have been run unbalanced (SDI, the commercial digital video standard, can be run hundreds of feet over a single coax without any performance issues); the HDMI cable is an unnecessarily-complicated rat's-nest arrangement involving nineteen conductors; switches, repeaters and distribution amplifiers, by virtue of this complicated scheme, are made unnecessarily expensive; and the HDMI plug is prone to falling out of the jack with little more than a light tug. As more and more manufacturers move to implement HDMI on more home theater devices, however, it falls to the consumer to try to make the best of this dubious and poorly-thought-out standard.

Anyhow, just having entered the world of Home Theater my funds were quickly tapped out and I just could not see paying hundreds for wire. So with a little surfing and some conversations with friends...Ta Da! I got some good cables for a fair price and no shipping hassles.

Hope this helps
