Awesome.
I know a lot of directors and people love the 2.35:1 AR, but man, whenever I see any of these modern films done for imax with the 1.78 or 1.85 ar, like with Batman Begins or that Transformers film, I wonder why more films aren't that AR... |

Because films are made for a CIH setup. Meaning that a 2.35:1 film will take up more screen space then a 1.85:1 for what it is designed to be shown in. Films are not made for you tv screens, they are made for cinemas. Batman begins is 2.40:1 as are all the transformers films except a few small sequence in the second film which where shoot in imax and thus where 1.44:1. Why don't more film shoot in imax? Because it is not an easy process and very few locations can truly take advantage of it, to the point that even when you do shoot in imax you have to shoot with a safe zone so that it can be shown in whatever the rest of the films aspect ratio is (usually 2.40:1), so the extra screen release estate is there to be more immersing but is cannot be made essential to the experience.

This will require a bit of double dipping on my part but the completist in me will be picking this up for sure.

It makes me more curious then why, if it's a popular brand for them (which I assume means lucrative), the Blu-ray sets are now exclusive to JB. I thought that was due to low sales of the earlier seasons on Blu. It's hard to get a bead on just how well Trek does in Australia on disc. Do you have a clearer understanding of all this? |
