France Vikingdom (2013) Blu-ray 3D [Region B Locked]

Anybody vouch for this at all? Is it just a shoddy conversion? I know Germany is bad for those but not sure about France.

Thanks for the info Tigermoth. Now i have not personally seen the Gamer conversion but i seem to recall that a lot of the feedback for it was fairly positive, given the conversion process used?

Thought this thread was worth bumping given that this film doesn't get mentioned much...

Anyway, I thought the film itself was going to be more historical than fantastical but it features Thor and his magic hammer so forget about historical accuracy. Forget about good acting too, Dominic Purcell and Craig Fairbrass are so wooden it made me wince.

The 3D is apparently a mix of native and converted and looks OK as far as depth and volume go but I didn't notice any pop outs. Given that the film looks like it's been digitally shot and there's a bit of greenscreening and CGI, 3D is the only way to watch it. It must look like absolute garbage in 2D. As usual, the 3D is at its best during all the fight scenes, which often go into slow motion to enhance the effect. Those scenes are the main justification for watching the film - the filmmakers have certainly seen 300, that's for sure!

The German disc is entirely English-friendly, even going so far as to have non-English dialogue subtitled in English.

Default Bad Reviews

Unfortunately the reviews of this movie as to 3d are horrible. Thanks for the heads-up Mr. 13th. Worth a look. Any 3d as long as not conversion, is better than no 3d right?

Vikingdom demonstrates how good productions can be put together professionally despite modest budgets. A gory, action fantasy film, it might not be for everyone. But for fans of that genre, it had an intelligent script (despite occasional cornball dialogue) with intelligent twists and turns, good action sequences and though obviously inexpensive, very nice special effects nevertheless.

But the best part was the surprisingly good 3D. Plenty of depth. Good color and detail. And it wasn't gimmicky.

Would not call this a hidden gem but as said, a good, fun story which kept my interest to the end. And even though I enjoyed it this would have been one of those watch once movies if it wasn't for the 3D. But in this case, the 3D actually helped me appreciate the film's overall production values considering that low budget. This is a definite keeper for the 3D addict.

Finally got around to watching this. Yikes, the 3D is pretty awful throughout. It just looks all really badly converted with loads of egregious conversion errors. I wish there was more native photography in it as i was struggling to see many native shots to be honest. It's all wavy wobbly edges around everything, any time anything moves in the frame you can see a big thick wobbly edge around it due to the poor conversion work.

The movie is completely awful but it's never boring, so at least it has that going for it. It's full of action and has plenty of locations and a solid sense of adventure so i do appreciate that. i also appreciate how ambitious the scale is given the miniscule budget. The reach exceeds the grasp but at least the film makers really went for it. It's huge in scale, it just all looks like crap. Like 13thman said above though, the digital photography is so ugly, the 3D does at least offset some of that unpleasantness.

Afraid I couldn’t agree more. Wow. Just my opinion, but worst 3D title in my collection hands-down. Waited 1 month+ for delivery to US from Rarewaves.com in UK. Really, really bad acting and horrible 3D conversion. As Levcore noted, chunks of background surrounding the actors is pulled into the foreground throughout. Probably should have watched this stinker in 2d with my LG TV’s 2d>3d conversion turned on for a better result.

On the bright side, the production company intro reels looked great in 3d, and we had fun laughing at the flat walls painted like rocks and the crazy wigs everyone wore.

Hi levcore. I realize I an in the minority but still remember how surprised I was when watching this film. Only real drawback was Dominic Purcell's wooden acting.
