I just want to know if it looks any better than the US blu released by Image. That is passable (as it is an HD upgrade), but it is a rough looking print.

I did find a post saying the french DVD was cut.

amazon mentions a new HD master which could mean a different version of the film as well.

But is Kate Capshaw topless? This is the best way to make sure it is uncut.

I have never seen the movie, so if you have an approximate time code for this sequence, I'll try to check this tomorrow evening.

There are 2 scenes which were edited: a scene where Dennis Quaid goes into a man's dreams of his cheating wife (the unedited version shows his wife's breasts) and later Dennis goes into the dreams of Kate Capshaw's character and they make love on a train (though her breasts may be cut off due to cropping).

I can now confirm Carlotta has used the cut version for their release of Dreamscape. The runtime is 1h 38 min 58 sec.
Also, don't expect so much of an upgrade compared to the Image BD, because the Carlotta release doesn't fare much better as far as PQ is concerned. At least, it's in 1080p, now.

thank you Tenia. That's what I was expected. there is no HD transfer available of the Uncut version.

Thank you Jerome and tenia. The PQ is rather surprising given it's a Carlotta release. I surmise it's sourced from the same transfer as the Image version. Is the colour timing better on this one though? I remember that the Image (apart from being an awful 1080i) was very washed out, like an old master made for TV yonks ago. At least it's 1080p now indeed...

I don't have the Image disc, but it seems to me that Carlotta used the same source. Color palette looked quite close to the Image disc too, but I can't say it's identical.

I think Carlotta really wanted to release this one, and stumble on a unique sub-par master and had to do with it in kind of a "take it or leave it" situation.

It's sad and disappointing considering Carlotta's usual standard, but has unfortunately happened once already with Lumet's Q&A. But they still remains as the exceptions to the rule as for Carlotta's usual level of quality.

Thanks tenia. I think I'll buy it anyway. 1080p average looking is better than no liquor at all . Hopefully there'll be a proper transfer one day...
