Universal/Sony (as it is in Nordic countries) lists Duel, Always and The Sugarland Express as individual releases for October here. No listings for 1941 or this box set.
Could be early info that they have not corrected... or true. I have beautiful editions of Jaws and E.T., so I'm not getting this box anyway. |

Nice to find out it's in the US and not just Australia.
I like his films as much as many other directors films but I never got any of the BD's yet so this is nice to have them in one nice set. Most of them I find at the library so it saved me buying them before. I don't care about the other two films people want and won't keep me from wanting the set. |

How long does Universal usually wait to release individual titles from a new box set? I may have to just grin and bear it and grab this set just for Duel if it's anything like a year or more. I guess the Hitchcock titles are a good gauge but I don't remember the details.

17 months between the box and individual releases for the Jurassic Park films. 9 - 12 months between the box and individual releases for the Universal Monsters films. 12 - 18 months between the box and individual releases for the Hitchcock films. |

I can see breaking down and buying this if the price falls dramatically and the premiere films Duel, Sugarland, 1941 & Always single releases aren't somehow forthcoming.
But it's a bummer for the most part as an announcement of those four films as individual blu-rays would have really gotten me excited and resulted in day one purchases for just about anything under $20 each. I watched the DVDs of Duel, Sugarland Express and 1941 over the weekend in anticipation of a bit of a wait. Duel looks fantastic, even on DVD. Sugarland Express could be an average to above average release with little effort. 1941 needs serious help though. One of the worst looking DVDs I've ever watched, honestly. And you know that beneath all the grunge that the production values are there, which just makes it all the more frustrating. I'll be interested in seeing how that one turns out. I Didn't watch Always but I know from several viewings of it over the years that the DVD for that is also quite terrible. Too bad too as Mikael Solomon's photography is a real selling point for that movie. It was just gorgeous in the theater. No offense to Janusz Kaminski, whose done some really nice work for him, but I think it's time for Spielberg to take different DP for a test drive. |
