Jack Sholder's debut film got to be one of the most wanted 80's slasher for Blu-ray, but like most of us knows the situation, the crime against cinema still continues to live on. Personally, I don't have the knowledge who's the current right holder of the movie. I just wish that somebody in the business would do something about the situation. People are getting old for fu*k sake!

I'm thinking Warner Bros. has it due to it being a New Line Cinema title. Maybe Warner Archive will release it or perhaps they'll license it to Scream Factory? Either way, it should be on BD, with that original poster art for the cover.

Yes. The original poster art is the only way to go. So much memories with that one. Didn't they use it at some point on the VHS cover of Just Before Dawn (1981) which is about to get re-release from Code Red. Edit. Haha, I found these: (Korea?) ![]() (Germany) ![]() Last edited by agenda; 03-12-2019 at 01:01 AM. |

Personally, one of my favorites scene is "the scene where Ronald Elster grabs Bunky by the throat and lifts her off the floor what was done without any special effect. 'Erland Van Lidth' (Elster) was an incredible weight lifter and actually seized Carol Levy by the neck and lifted her for the shot."
You won't see that kind of commitmend these (#me too) days, especially from actresses, even in this genre. The very "stunt" in that scene is actually pretty dangerous to handle. You have to know what you're about to do, like with any other stunt of course, but someone that petite like Carol Levy could injured too easily. It's quick, but very powerful moment in the film. [Show spoiler]

I wish (oh, how I wish) that that could be the case this year. Then again, I've been wishing that from the beginning of the format, so.....

is supporting the body from behind. I doubt the girl was hurt. If you see the Last Victim aka Forced Entry, Tanya Roberts did her own stunts. Being low budget there probably was no stunt coordinator. There is a fight with the rapist where she ends up falling down the stairs backward, that is pretty unsafe. She has real bruises in the follow up shots. I guess Tanya didn't mind hurting herself (although I doubt she thought she might get hurt sometimes, such as in Tourist Trap she decided to do a running scene in the dark barefoot and ended up with many cuts on the bottom of her feet. As for posters of Alone in the Dark, that was the only one during the initial release in theaters. The foreign Just Before Dawn posters are either completely re-drawn, or they manipulated the original enough, so that people might not know where it came from. Since poster art such as this is considered work for hire, it is no longer owned by the artist. I know of some successful lawsuits where an artist won a case because although the sort-of copy was a new painting, the original pose used for it was unique enough that the original artist got money. I had the original artist as a teacher in art college. He also did the poster for Revenge of the Radioactive reporter. He may have done others, but I haven't spoke to him since the 90s. |

Just watched the Dead Pitt Q&A from last wee and they had Don May on from Synapse and one of the questions was are they releasing "Alone In The Dark" and his reply was we're not but somebody else is.
Which pretty much confirms its Scream Factory since there already have the deal inplace with Warner and have put out a bunch of New Line films. |
