Default Robotech Academy - Harmony Gold Kickstarter campaign

I didn't see a thread for this, Mods please merge if one exists.

I know Girls with Guns posted this in the Official Anime thread, but I figured it might draw a little more attention with it's own thread.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...botech-academy

With less than a month to go and not even 20% of the funding goal pledged yet, I'm afraid this might be tough climbing for HG. I sure hope it happens, as I'm a huge fan of Robotech, and would love to see the entire US series on BD someday.

Yeah, but this's the "fake" Harmony-Gold-clings-to-license non-Macross Robotech from Shadow Chronicles, isn't it?

Well, I highly doubt that Robotech is going to reach anywhere near $500,000 - Even the super-popular Wakfu Kickstarter with almost 6000 backers didn't make it to $500,000, and it was one of the top Kickstarter campaigns of the year - it even won some sort of award from the site.

True, but Ankama's initial pitch was for only $80k. HG is asking for $500k up front.

Wow the degree of evasiveness in this bullshit FAQ answer is amazing!

Why should I support Harmony Gold when they hate Macross?

If you love all things Robotech, you'll want to take part in the KickStarter for Robotech Academy! At Harmony Gold, we're huge fans of Macross, and our company has supported the brand since the 1980s, during a time when it was almost impossible to find anime on TV in North America. However, we want to make it clear that Harmony Gold licensed the exclusive rights to distribute Macross and its derivatives outside of Japan. The company has acquired these rights through all the official and legal channels in good faith, and we have protected these rights successfully for the last 30 years.

Yes, but Ankama kept throwing out a slew of excellent stretch goals, 9 of them, actually - including adding the entire second season dubbed, and additional bonus episodes, to the initial one-season offering - and those kept the pledgers in a pretty strong frenzy through the entire pledge period... you can tell that just by looking at the number of comments and updates. They unfortunately didn't quite make that 9th stretch goal. Plus, look at all the pledge tiers and plethora of offerings in their Kickstarter - including NINE Art Books... Just saying, it's going to be tough for HG unless they really pull out some stops during their campaign. Should be interesting to watch, at least.

HG can go pound sand, I hope this Kickstarter campaign falls way short and does not pan out for them... they need a recalibration on where they actually stand in the market.

Definitely not something a mecha-hater like me would even remotely desire, lol.

As a fan, even I can't see them reaching $500k, unless they get some bigtime industry support, which I don't see happening.
Even getting a $13k bump overnight still leaves them about 75% short. They should've set the goal at $250k, and hoped it surpassed their expectations.

All they need to do is sell a nice chunk of land, from their Real Estate business, and that should cover the costs.

Harmony Gold now plans to harness the power of trolling... for profit.

For $2...

Love Macross. Can tolerate Robotech.

HG though - Nope. The sooner they blink out of existence the better we'll all be.

While I enjoyed Robotech as a kid, there is no way I would support HG. Im not one to wish failure on a company but HG is the one exception.

Except everything he says is absolutely correct: the only thing Harmony Gold does is block the potential domestic release of Macross titles, and as demonstrated by the FAQ answer I quoted above, they try and dress up defending their rights ownership as if they're protecting the Macross brand, and it fails because their PR newspeak is so hilariously transparent.

Anime fans don't care about shitty new Robotech stories, they care about the Macross stories they already love and actually want!
