Can't wait for the blu of this, local cinema isn't showing it, typical, so I'll gladly wait, looks like my type of film, drama with a strong musical core

Finally watched this on a re-run at my local cinema, and was completely won over by it, absolutely loved it, will probably be in my top 5 favourite (different to my top 5 best) films of the year, day one

Is the high black level a stylistic choice or just because of a wonky Blu-ray release?

I watched the DVD last week, and found the blacks to be soft and washed out. In the cinema, I remember blacks being quite deep.

Noticed that too on my latest rewatch. Screenshots of the US version seems to be a lot better.

I just got the disc today and the picture quality (contrast, black) is really bad in comparison to the US release - here is the quick comparison of black level (UK at the top):


If someone is interested in better picture quality in region B - Australian release has same picture as the US release (+ English SDH also during the songs).
