Amazon.com also lists the Halloween Collection:
http://www.amazon.com/Halloween-Coll...607271&sr=1-85 These may just be the Echo Bridge releases released through Lion's Gate. They've even got From Dusk till Dawn and The Faculty up for October 7th. EDIT: And The Prophecy Collection and Venom. This doesn't sound too exciting. |

I own the australian steelbook trilogy set, has the same transfers as the austrian release, but I wonder if this American set will simply port those or get better transfers? Parts I & III look fine but Hellbound's lapses in quality are noticeable in high-def.

Sounds like LG got the rights to some of the Echo Bridge Miramax titles. I wouldn't put it past them to just re-issue the existing shit with a new UPC, maybe a new cover. Hopefully they are doing their own releases with better transfers and features. Just can't say with LG, they have awesome releases and they have horrible ones. Still interesting news, can't wait for specs.

Unfortunately, these are nothing but a lazy reissues of a crappy Echo Bridges' four pack collections. I figured it out, but, alas, too late.

IMHO the first two Hellraiser films were excellent; I liked how they connected with each other, i.e. the second one had characters from the first, etc.
I have extremely vauge/dim memories of possibly seeing some of the other films in the series, but nothing especially stands out. The only scene I really remember is that in one of the films, a character lives above a bar/nightclub that he/she works in... |

Didn't Lionsgate do that horrid blu ray of Near Dark ? Are they a studio that also really doesn't care about their catalog releases ? They are sitting on some goodies like Alligator and the Gate
And the first three Hellraisers - who has those ? Image has the first one I think... |

If any series is in need of a reboot, it's Hellraiser. Great iconic villain, but the storyline and acting is just awful for the most part. I like 1 and 2, but 3 is just god awful. For some reason, 4 appeals to me somewhat, but the rest are forgettable.
That said, if this does in fact come to fruition and offers a decent bit, I might bite. |

I never really understood the real major hate 5 gets. I mean I usually hear that it doesn't include much of Pinhead... Clive Barker became crazy over the years in my opinion and Pinhead wasn't that huge of a part in the book either, that made him scary. Besides I never like to look at Pinhead as actually evil and 3 and 4 tried to make him evil.
ANYHOW 5's problem is that it's Jacobs Ladder.... But I've always considered it one of the best hellraiser films. But I haven't seen the hellraiser films that followed it. |

I think it mostly suffers for getting lumped in with all the subsequent films... Many people probably don't even really remember which bits were in 5, which in 6 and which in 7. 5 Is definitely the best of the later era sequels, though, and in some ways better than parts 3 and 4. It's obviously no masterpiece or anything; but it's a decent, little Hellraiser story that's actually very reminiscent of those old, artsy Hellraiser comic books they used to make.
6-8 are the pits, though. 9, well, at least I can appreciate their attempt to bring things back to a more traditional Hellraiser 1-type storyline, but while still being an original, non-remake story. Sorta like Halloween 4, Howling 4 or Prom Night 4. Of course, it was still also pretty crappy, like other series' sequels. But at least a small step up from the film right before it. Oh, and 5 also gets hate because Barker specifically spoke out against it because it was the first one of the films made without his oversight. But I think if he coulf bring himself to be fair and objective, he'd have to give 5 credit for doing a better job in many departments than the essentially unfinished 4. I'd like to think that all of these LG re-releases will be superior to the Echo Bridge travesties. I mean, LG has had the rights to the digital HD versions for a while now, so they presumably have access to better (and/or their own) transfers.
Edit: LG has also already released From Dusk Till Dawn and The Faculty on BD in the UK. Last edited by Seymour; 07-17-2014 at 04:01 PM. |

As for the Franchise, I still don't understand the hate for Part 4. I think Bloodline is a great film and highly enjoyable. Certainly FAR more enjoyable then parts 5-9 and I'd argue better than part 3 as well. All of the films have their moments, and I don't hate any of them (Not even Part 9 which was far better than I expected based on the disdain on these boards for it... yes it's annoying that Pinhead wasn't Doug Bradley, but the storyline itself pulled elements from earlier Hellrasier films and was more enjoyable than Inferno, and Hellworld in that it was a true Hellraiser film.) For people that haven't watched the films before, or for first time watchers I'd reccomend watching them in this order... -Hellrasier -Hellbound -Hell on Earth -Bloodlines -Hellseeker -Revelations -Inferno -Deader -Hellworld Hellseeker isn't a great story, but it brings back Ashley Laurence's Kirsty character which makes it interesting enough just to see that relationship resolved. Inferno, Deader, and Hellworld all have decent storylines, but the Pinhead/cenobite moments feel tacked on and an afterthought. I really Hope Lionsgate treats the franchise right. One movie per disk. Fresh transfers (though I'd have no problem with them reusing the anchor Bay disk in this set) and at least a few special features. At a minimum, HD trailers for all films, a commentary track for each film. Ideally we'd see the work prints added on as extras where they exist. However I'm expecting the set will look IDENTICAL to the Leprechaun box set. Black box with a picture of pinhead on the cover. 2 Movies per disk (Except for Part 1 which will get it's own disk as it will just be the Anchor Bay Disk re-used) Minimal special features, Bargain price. |
