Default Madman (1982)

Take it with a grain of salt, but according to the somewhat official 'Madman Marz' Facebook page...

Quote:
Watch for info about our new 4K restoration of Madman from the original negative.
4K is too expensive for Code Red, so I'm betting they aren't the ones behind it.

Synapse says it's not them.

I don't think Scream or Scorpion do 4K either, do they?

Vinegar Syndrome has 4K scanning, though (Graduation Day). Hmmm.

This is one that I will definitely re-buy if the color is more like the old Anchor Bay disc, and the extras get ported over. One of my all-time favorites!

My money is on Vin Syn. If Graduation Day gets a 4K scan, then this most certainly would. I can't wait to see this on Blu! But, I won't part with my AB disc since I love the cover and blue tint, just in case the new disc doesn't have the blue tint.

What about Slasher//Video? Or are they too small for this? My second guess would be Vinegar Syndrome. Someone on another forum suggested Alamo Drafthouse. I really want to see this come to fruition but, please, don't f**k with the colors.

That page is run by producer Gary Sales so yes I would say that is legit. I never thought we would get a 4K remaster, I hope they put in the blue tint for the night scenes again.

I would love this. I also hope they add the blue tint back, it just wasn't the same movie without it. I bought the HDX version on Vudu, but it still looks pretty weak.

Just to clarify. No one has mentioned blu-ray, just that its getting a 4K Restoration.

The last word by the rightsholder was that he didn't want to release a blu-ray until a remake is produced. He seemed very stern about that according to Bill from Code Red.

So its entirely possibly this is just for another purpose such as screenings or a re-release in some small cinemas. Nothing concrete yet. Plus, I believe Bill has even said he's still got the rights? No?

Maybe its for a foreign release, possbly from 88Films as part of their new slasher initative.

It's VS. They confirmed it on a post to their Facebook page.

It's a great time to be a horror blu Ray collector for sure! Now we need a company to start releasing lower tier slashers on Blu Ray.

Un-freakin-believable! Fantastic news, and no better company to do it than VS. Reasons why I love this label:

They don't ***** and moan about no one buying their titles
They won't ***** and moan if something doesn't sell 10 million copies the first week
They use original cover art AND NOTHING ELSE. No blurbs, quotes, or other useless junk other labels are obsessed with sticking on the covers.
They do their own work and have their own equipment. No excuses about fees or somebody else screwing up a transfer.

Long live Vinegar Syndrome!

Yup. Great year of announcements/releases for old school horror fans. I have no doubt that VS will give us quality releases.

word! That I did. Good catch!

and maybe not 4K but Synapse doing Curtains and Prom Night as well as Scream doing The Final Terror and Sleepaway Camp, it has definitely been a good year for horror fans.

I was skeptical too that we wouldn't be getting a blu-ray of the film just yet. But now that it's confirmed VS is doing it, hell yah!
So happy to be getting spoiled with so many 80s slashers.

There's a long list of sub-par releases (VHS masters) and non-released 80s slashers though and I hope we keep seeing them trickle out just like Curtains, The Final Terror, X-Ray (Hospital Massacre) did. I guess even Graduation day never had a good release. Very happy about all these announcements!

EDIT: Hope that's not true, down there, @I'll Be back

Someone asked about the Blu-ray release two weeks ago on the Madman Facebook page and this was Gary's reply;

Quote:
Thanks for asking, Rich. Had one in the works, but it got derailed.
