Before I updated to version 1.7, I was able to flawlessly use the sixaxis ps3 controller with my ps2 games (I only have 2: GTA: Vice city stories and Scarface); When I was done playing the game I would hit the ps button to exit the game and return to the system menu, just like you would in a PS3 game.
Now things have changed. I can still use the sixaxis controller to play the ps2 games but can't seem to exit by pressing the ps button. In fact when I do that, game freezes. Now both of these games have rumble feature and I know 1.7 enabled rumble support on ps3. So I assume the two are related. I guess I will now buy a ps2 controller and usb adapter and try that route. My question is how come I was able to use the sixaxis controller on those ps2 games w/o problem until I updated to 1.7? Don't get me wrong, buying a ps2 controller and usb adapter is no big deal; it's just I was perfectly happy before without this rumble feature and am somewhat irritated that I might need to buy a last-gen controller when I never owned a ps2. Otherwise, my ps3 experience has been great. Absolutely loving blu ray and own the following games: Rfom, obvlivion, F.E.A.R. Oh and if anyone can suggest a good ps3 game I am itching to buy another. Thanks so much |

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. I'm not sure what's goin' on either. Hopefully, the 1.8 update will be at midnight and maybe that will fix things as you suggested. I'll post back and let you know after I update.
I could not hold out any longer; I bought Fight Night round 3; Been playing for about an hour and it seems like a lot of fun. GREAT graphics. |

Just got done DLing 1.8 on ps3 and am most happy to report that I can once again exit my 2 ps2 games using the ps button like I did before 1.7.
![]() Now I don't have to worry abouyt buying that ps2 controller or usb adapter. I still wonder what happened in the first place. Can only assume I ran into a bump in the road during the 1.7 update. Oh well. Hopefully that will be my one and only ps3 glitch! Thanks again to all who responded ![]() |

Yeah, it seems to have been a isolated incident. I had asked about this on other forums and no one knew anything about this ever happening. I may have had the distinct honor of being the only ps3 owner worldwide that this has happened to. But it is not a problem anymore. After I downloaded 1.8, I was able to fully exit scarface and gta:vcs with sixaxis withouth any difficulty.
Still not sure what happened. Maybe a power surge when I DLed 1.7? Guess I'll never know for sure. Like I said, the issue is moot as everything is now working correctly. The Ps3 is truly an amazing piece of technology. I'll have to test it out some more to be sure, but I think the ps3 is now doing a better job of upscaling my standard dvds than does my oppo upconverting player!! Wow!! Thanks Sony for 1.8!! |

damn it!!!
It did it again today! Froze when I tried to exit GTA:VCS which I've been playing flawlessly all week. For some reason, I decided to remove my other sixaxis controller from the controller station and soon as I did, it went back to the menu screen. So I repeated the process and again the game froze on "Please Wait" when I tried to exit the game. Then I removed the 2nd sixaxis from the charging station and, voila, it went back to the menu screen. So now I have removed the charging station from the equation. So far, no probelms. It is an Intec controller charging station that was bought at CC. Could it be that a thrid party accessory is reponsible for this nuisance? I have googled intec to see if there are any reports of ps3 incompatiblity issues and have found none. But if it is the charging station, why did it work before? I don't know what to think. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions??? |

Interesting problem... I have no answer for you, though. However it should be noted, through all 3 (4 if you count PSP) of Playstation console ownership, The only 3rd party peripherals I've owned are 1 Memory Card (PS1), Naki Hockey Pad Analog Controller that came free with the Purchase of NHL2005? 06? (PS2), Logitech Headset packaged with SOCOM 1 (PS2), and a Logitech Keyboard (PS2). Of these, only the Headset and Keyboard work reliably. Logitech, I believe, has Sony's endorsment to make certain 3rd party products (like the headsets and keyboards), which might explain their reliability and longevity. The memory card was crap, and game saves got corrupted all the time, and the controller is the biggest piece of garbage ever (there's a reason it was free). Also of note, SanDisk memory sticks for PSP and PS3 are cheaper than the Sony ones, but just as good, as SanDisk and Sony developed those sticks together.
Moral of this story? Unless specifically endorsed by Sony, stay away from 3rd party products. |

Hopefully this will the end of this problem for me. I really do not know what I should do if it happens again with the charging station out of the equation. I mean, what else could it be? ANYBODY????? |

Sigh
It's still doing it. This time I had one controller pluuged into port 2 and charging. The controller that I was using was not connected but the usb cord was still connected to port one. So I then disconnected controller 2 , and it then exited properly. Not sure what to think. At least I now know I am not alone. I found some people with same issue on playstation forum. No real solutions as of yet that I could see. http://boardsus.playstation.com/play..._id=ps3&page=1 Some had this fixed after update as early as 1.54. Me on the other hand, I never noticed this until 1.7. I was thinking that I might be missing a step with pressing the ps button when ps2 game loads but I don't think this is it. Oh well, more research for me. I am still perusing this board for info but wanted to share what I did find. And maybe let people (including myself) that I'm not crazy ![]() |
