Default Does anyone have a GotAnime? membership?

Everything I seem to buy on RightStuf is excluded from the discount, so I don't feel the need to pay $12 a year for the GotAnime? membership. But I did hear you get access to an exclusive website only for members. What's it like? Is this "members only" website even worth it, considering everything I buy can't get a discount anyway?

ive got the membership, for me i notice the savings whenever i buy manga cause i buy alot i always make my money back but the occasional anime always saves me like 3-6 dollars. ive noticed that a new release is always excluded but when a sale goes up it tends to work and save you a couple bucks more.

the gotanime site has a coupon you can use like the one right now says get 3 dollars off your order of 74 dollars or more but it just shows the release that are coming in the next months in all categories. nothing that amazing

My GotAnime just expired. It was great for the first year because I was just getting into anime and buying tons of stuff that qualified for the discount, but now pretty much everything is a preorder that doesn't qualify. It seems like they are heavily discounting preorders - if that's where you're at with anime collecting then it's not worth it really at all. If you have catching up to do with older shows then it will easily make up for the $12.

The GotAnime store is non-existent. Literally. It doesn't exist.

I spend a fortune on anime Blu-rays per year and have never felt the need for the Got Anime membership. Half of the site seems to be excluded or almost anything on sale.

When Pre-order items go on sale due to a Studio's sale, that is usually when you can use your Got Anime towards those kind of items - the sale price will usually be about the same as the original pre-order price, but the sale will also activate the Got Anime deduction on the item. The only thing is, you have to catch this change on your own, and must contact Rightstuf every time to get them to manually take the GA discount off that item, or else you won't get it - it's not automatic. It's a PITA system, but it has saved me money - about $60 over the course of this year so far (7 months since I bought the membership) - but you're right, it really doesn't amount to that much when I'm buying $5K of anime from them in a year's time... but, every little bit helps, so even if I'm only saving $60, I'll renew it when it comes time.

^ That. Every studio featured sale even advertises a "Price with GotAnime?", which then it may be used with pre-orders. I think I've received the last of my pre-orders from the last Funimation sale, and I paid $41.22 shipped on all the LEs. Fantastic deal, and well worth renewing yearly and shopping with RightStuf. Almost all of these LEs are like $55.99+ on Amazon, even as a pre-order or lowest price.

i think it's only worth it if you're going to be buying older stuff, or if you don't buy new releases right away.

i got a membership when i was buying a lot of old manga, and it was worth it. i don't think i would renew though because there's nothing old i want to buy.

Yes, in addition to older titles I purchased that were eligible, I was able to use Got Anime discounts on all these Pre-orders below - almost every Funimation and Sentai title I've ordered since I got my GA membership back in December, due to manufacturer's sales that occurred at some point after I pre-ordered but before they shipped:

Psycho Pass
Mardock Scramble Third Exhaust
Book of Bantorra
Haganai Next
Code:Breaker
From the New World
Deadman Wonderland

So any argument that you never get discounts on new Pre-orders is a bunch of rubbish. You just need to be attentive and know how to work the system. Plus the fact that 95% of the time Rightstuf's pre-order prices on a title are lower than anywhere else, definitely makes pre-order purchases there an extra bargain.

yeah, if you participate in a studio sale .. you can make back that $12 almost instantly

Ex. I could order/preorder Urasawa's Monster (Perfect Edition) manga for $12.05 with my GotAnime, $13.40 without a membership or (just a comparison) $15-$17 off Amazon

The Got Anime membership is for use with the studio sales. It's normally excluded from the weekly specials and bargain bin.

The pre-orders in the weekly specials are usually 40% off MSRP. During a studio sale though they are 46% off with the membership. You need to wait for those sales.

Funimation, Sentai, and Manga Entertainment sales are usually every 3-4 months. Discotek and Nozomi sales are occasional. They don't do studio sales for NIS America, Aniplex, or Viz anime.

Yeah you guys are right. Lately I personally haven't been too interested in very much that Funi or Sentai have been putting out, and have rifled through Nozomi, so the GA just hasn't been as noticeable. With Sentai seeming to step up their game on premium editions though I will probably renew. TRSI sentai prices suck though even with studio sales and GA, except during holidays. If AoA, Viz, NIS were discounted renewing wouldn't even be a question.

Aniplex will never get the GA discount but I have seen some nis America titles use the GA discount not new releases but some of the older stuff.

I have it because I used it to get Attack On Titan S1 LE for cheap. I don't know if I will renew but it does help a little I guess.

But we all know that amazon stopped having really good prices over a year ago when it decided to start charging msrp-say 3%. Needless to say I hardly ever buy anime from amazon any more.

No big deal - I easily save $4-$5 on many pre-orders with the Got Anime discount - so I get my money back with just a few titles. Since I'm usually buying 40+ titles a year from Rightstuf, I make out just fine.

It's really not worth it unless you buy a lot of items that aren't on sale. If all you do is get stuff when it's on a big sale you can't use it anyway.

It applies to sales most of the time as well actually. For instance during the recent Funi sale it applied to items hence why I got Escaflowne and Code Geass so cheap. Even the current KODANSHA sale I would be able to save on every item.

Yeah if you buy a couple non-Aniplex box sets each year then it pays for itself. Stealth price markups are annoying, but I'm glad they have it.
