ALL Blu-ray playere, including the PS3, need occasional firmware updates. The most recent PS3 update was released on April 24th of this year.
The difference is that Sony keeps ahead of the curve, and Samsuck is woefully behind.
Also, the PS3 has Wi-Fi capability for updating, the only Blu-ray player so equipped.
In my opinion, connecting an ethernet cable to your player is the easiest way to update. If you are always connected to the internet, some players will even display a message when a firmware update is available.

Default Sony Pictures Bluray problems with SAMSUNG BD-P1400

I subscribe to Netflix and I have noticed that the BDs from Sony Pictures are having problems playing on the SAMSUNG BD-P1400. They exhibit the same problem: After about 20 minutes the player starts to display a slightly jumping picture and then after a few minutes the jumping radically progresses until the picture freezes and the display on the TV is totally scrambled. This past weekend the two movies that did this were Sleuth and First Sunday. When I played the third movie There Will Be Blood by Paramount it played without a problem. Has anyone else experienced the same problem or may know of a simple fix to allow the Sony BDs to play correctly. I have already installed the firmware version 1.7 but that doesn't help. Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Check to see if you have 24fp enabled. If so, you'll need to disable it.

There's alote of us that put a lote of time and money into are players, sometimes i feel people just hold on to there "samsuck" players just to complain or just to call it samsuck. If it sucks so bad, sell it and move on.There's alote of us that enjoy our samsung players and maybe could take offence to a comment like that(because that was a grown up comment).i just tried to turned the table around, to show someone how it could feel to someone that enjoys there equipment(just making a point).. mine does't suck.Maybe you can educate me ,Sunshine. It's like iam not on a special forum , trying to tell others to sell there blu-rays for a 1500(you know what i mean)But i guess you know better, teacher.I put out that statement to make a point but maybe you just didn't get it, maybe you were out to lunch.

Lighten up OZZMAN!
Those of us who have a 1200 enjoyed them originally. Pretty soon, however, more and more new releases refused to play correctly.
Other manufacturers were quick to issue FW updates, while Samsung/Samsuck sat on their collective butts.
Phone calls, faxes, e-mails, letters and a threatened lawsuit failed to get them to even acknowledge the problems, let alone communicate with those of us who paid as much as $700 for these players. After 3 MONTHS, they issued a series of FW updates that corrected most of the problems, but have not issued an update since Feb 5th.
Yes, I will gladly dump my 1200 when the Panasonic DMP-BD50 debuts later this month. Meanwhile my son's PS# has filled in admirably when the 1200 let me down.
I will never buy another player fron Samsung/Samsuck!

For $500(the price back in Aug/2007), I would of expected better from Sony.
When on earth did you sell your Sony S300. With the latest update (3.90) the loading times have reduced to the half or even less.

Just recently I bought "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "Ratatouille" and when the disc start to play it says something like "it could last up to 3 min loading", for my surprise it didn't even took a minute to load!

POTC BD's now loads twice as faster as let's say 5 months ago. Of course more firmware updates will reduce even more loading times.

I am expecting to buy a Sony S550 but not because the loading times, but because I want a player that could decode internally DTS MA and sent Dolby TrueHD bitstreamed.

BTW none of my BD's have had "freezing" problems. None any other problem besides the "slow" loading times.

Ozzman, just a heads up. You need to learn how to use a spell checker or improve your grammar. It is "a lot" which is two words, and not "alote". It is "their" and not "there". "offense" and not "offence". "tables" not "table's". "making" not "makeing". "special" not "speacial". "wasn't" not "was'nt". "issues" not "isuea's".

I make spelling errors as well, but try to correct them prior to posting. I believe it will help your credibility if you present your argument using correct spelling and grammar.

I have a 1200 too.

Default Sam 1400 And Sony 300

I Have The Sony 300. I Upgraded To The 1400 When I Got A Hd Receiver, onkyo 705. Now The 1400 Is Giving Me Some Problems After Some Months Of Use. Not Only Some Stuttering On Newer Releases, But It Also Is Taking 2 Or 3 Trys To Even Read The Disc. Samsung Is Clueless, They Say Send It In. Im Using The Sony As A Back Up. It Needs Updated As Its Been Stored For A While. The Issue I Have With The Sony Is The Advanced Sound Codecs, And Have No Clue As To Why They Put Dd+ On It, When Ive Yet To See A Blu-ray With That, But Plenty Of Hd Dvds. The Sonys Firmware Is 2.0. Is There A Big Difference With The 3.9 Update? Personally Im Kind Of Pissed Off At Samsung. They Dont Resolve Firmware Issues Very Quick.

What's with these recent posts? Capitalizing every word, misspellings, lousy grammar etc. Have our schools gotten THAT bad?

Well thanks tarheel. I changed the words you pointed out. When i type fast i do make alot of mistakes. The truth is iam not very good at spelling and i don't know how to use the spell check.I'll get my wife to show me.I agree with you. Thanks for putting that out.I know speaking my mind can upset people,But if i didn't speak my mind i would be fake.Just like how you felt it was important to point out all my spelling mistakes(and i thank you).So you have a samsuck as well,Tell me how much it sucks or don't suck.Do you use your samsuck a lot or are you going to sell your samsuck.I hope you don't have as many problems with your samsuck as some people do with there samsuck.Cheers(I love it)

I have the same player and haven't had any problems with any Sony discs (although I haven't tried those discs you mentioned). It's been a good player overall... newest discs played: 3:10 To Yuma, Sunshine (1.1 movie played fine), The Rock, I Am Legend... plays all Java movies well (POTC series, CARS). The strangest thing happened about 3 weeks ago though, I bought Phantom of the Opera (WB) which was released in 2006 and it will not play the movie more than a few minutes before freezing up. I exchanged it at BB and the new disc played a bit longer but then would freeze up. I contacted WB and they didn't give me a real answer but sais that they would be happy to exchange it for another one. I'm waiting to get that back right now so I'll see what happens. The next step would be to call Samsung which I'm not looking forward to.

Pnklound,The 1.7 Firmware you have is the best that samsung can do right now.On the top of this page Edh63 suggest's looking at the 24 frame mode and try it with off. That might help.

I've had a 1200 for a year, and while I was mostly happy, I got tired of all the problems, the worst being the inability of the 1200 to play 1080p/24 without lip-sync issues, so yesterday I bought a Panny 30. Wow, on the Panny, the menu for 3:10 to Yuma is not flying across the screen. I can actually see it. I, too, will never buy another Samsung product.

I'll check that out. I think it defaults to 60 frames. I don't have a TV that accepts 24 so I've never had it on that setting. Phantom has been the only movie (DVD or BD) that I've ever had do this and its an old release
I have 1.7 installed as well

Your zeal to promote the PS3 would be admirable, were it not for the fact that you've taken to threadcrapping discussions of other, and in some ways better, players. All players, including the PS3, have strengths and weaknesses, and there is no "best" for everyone.

I actually own a PS3, a BD-P1200 and a DVD 3800BDCI (which you also threadcrapped). I'm able to make comparisons based on firsthand knowledge and extensive personal experience. If you can't say the same, then please stick to the PS3 fora, thanks.
