It seems like a lot of incredible films are coming out this year. What are your guys's most anticipated movies for this year?
1. Foxcatcher -Wow just from the trailer this film looks haunting. It's been getting fantastic reviews, and has gotten particular praise for Steve Carell and Channing Tatum's performances. I've been waiting for Steve Carell to take on a dramatic role like this, since I truly believe he has acting talent. 2. Boyhood -This has apparently been released already, but it hasn't been shown in my city yet. I'm really fascinated of the brilliant idea of a coming of age film taking place over 12 years, and seeing the actors get older throughout the film. 3. Birdman -Finally a new movie with Michael Keaton! How long has it been? The trailer for the film looks fantastic and hopefully Keaton is finally going to be nominated for an oscar. Apparently the cinematographer is giving the appearance that the film is one continuous long take, which I think is an awesome concept. 4. Inherit Vice -It's Paul Thomas Anderson, what more can I say? From early reviews, it seems like its very different from his typical films, which I'm all for. The cast is very promising and overall it's a film I don't want to miss. 5. A Walk Among the Tombstones -The trailer for this movie is fantastic. It's not possible to see the trailer for this thing and be underwhelmed. Liam Neeson looks amazing in this film and from what I've heard, the novel it's based off of is very good. 6. Kill The Messenger -Another trailer that just really sold me. Jeremy Renner is one of my favorite actors of this generation, and he really looks good in this film, and so does the rest of the cast. 7. Life Of Crime -Prequel for Jackie Brown? I'm all for it! Not to mention the novel it's based on is so much better than Rum Punch. Sad to see that Tarantino isn't behind this, but the trailer for it looks very promising along with a solid cast. I think that Mos Def is pretty underrated and I'm glad to see him in something new. 8. The Cobbler -I don't know much about this film, but I know enough to want to see it. I've been waiting forever to see Adam Sandler in another dramatic role as he's done fantastic in previous ones, (Punch-Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, Funny People) and under the right director, he can be great. In this case it's Thomas McCarthy, so I'm fairly sure this film will turn out to be good. Plus the supporting cast includes Dustin Hoffman and Steve Buscemi. It's gotta be decent. 9. Fury -It's been a while since a good WW2 flick has came out. With the exception of Shia Lebouf, the cast looks great. The effects also look incredible. I feel as if this film has potential to be great. 10. The Immigrant -From what I've seen, this movie looks so beautiful. It almost seems like it's worth watching just from the cinematography, it looks amazing. From what I've heard the film is melodramatic, but from what I've seen it looks decent. The cast is great, and Jeremy Renner looks especially good in this. Definitely going to try and check this one out. Last edited by jabbercash; 07-25-2014 at 11:11 AM. |

Sorry dude, but you were way beaten to the punch here...
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=233652 Although I might as well just post anyway and list what I'm looking forward to seeing in the rest of the year: 1) Birdman - Just looks intriguing as hell, really baffling and unlike anything we've seen from the director...heck it seems unlike anything we've seen period. 2) Interstellar - I know I'll get flack, but Nolan is one of the most assured filmmakers out there at the moment, and I really dig his retroactive classy sensibility. The film just looks gorgeous and feels purely cinematic in scope and spectacle. 3) Foxcatcher - Looks intense, huge buzz around the film. I'm unclear around the true story it's based on and I'd rather be left in the dark, since it looks like it's going to have some dark twists and turns in it. 4) Inherent Vice - I usually try and just list films I've seen footage from...but it's Paul Thomas Anderson... 5) Guardians of the Galaxy - The wait for next week is going to be unbearable, this just looks right up my ally. 6) Gone Girl - It's Fincher, while I'm skeptical of the source material, I'm enjoyed almost everything from Fincher, and it looks like he's filled the film full of cold imagery, psycho-horror and social paranoia. 7) The Rover - Comes out in the UK next month, the trailer gave me the chills and it looks like a real intense ride as well as a throw back to Ozplotation. 8) Nightcrawler - Trailer for this one looked terrific, seems like something American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis would come up with. Gylenhall looks really dynamic in the main role too. 9) Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For - I'm more apprehensive about this than excited, but I really enjoyed the visual style of the first, and the fractured narrative was really unique, I'm just hoping this feels more fulfilling than the first one feels now, as there is very little under that films style. 10) The Interview - Might cause World War III, might as well check it out. Runner-up) The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies - I watched the other two, they were good fun, but it'll be nice to see the series come to a rather belated close. Other films I'm excited to check out: The Expendables 3 Lucy The Guest The Boxtrolls A Most Wanted Man The Drop The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 Kill the Messenger Horrible Bosses 2 Dumb and Dumber To Exodus: Gods and Kings Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Enemy Big Hero 6 Stuff I'm not looking to seeing but might have to: The Inbetweeners 2 Into The Storm Sex Tape Wish I Was Here Monsters: Dark Continent Dracula Untold Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey? Lucy: Will probably see next Tuesday. From all the reviews I've seen, I won't expect a whole lot, but if it at least entertains, I'm sure I'll love it.
Hercules: Same as above. Guardians of the Galaxy: Because I like space and stuff. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: My expectations are low, but the trailer got me all hyped up for it now. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For: Haven't seen anything about it, so I might be going into it blind. Love the first movie, so this should be a no-brainer. Interstellar: Nolan hasn't failed me yet. Exodus: Gods and Kings: Whether it's good or bad, the movie looks lovely and epic. Gone Girl: Looks like a decent thriller/mystery. But when I saw David Fincher's name on it, I was all like, hell yes! Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I: As long as it's as good as the last one, it'll be great. Kingsmen: The Secret Service: Matthew Vaughn's films are pretty awesome, and the trailer for this one definitely caught my interest. Dumb and Dumber To: Because the first film is great, and it seems like comedies of this type are becoming rarer and rarer. I'm willing to give it a shot. Into the Storm: Ehhh, sure, why not? Unbroken: One I'll probaby just rent, but the story looks inspiring, and I was surprised to see Angelina Jolie in the director's chair. Should be interesting. Sharknado 2: The Second One: Because, obviously, this may be the one movie in all cinema that will forever change human history and lead us all to a new golden age of enlightenment. Great choices, HockeySlasher. On that note, if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to choose only 3 films in 2014 to watch from this day forward, I would easily go with (in order of release date):
1. Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Interstellar 3. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 |
